The fact is that many diseases (for example, tonsillitis, parotitis (mumps), sinusitis and even diphtheria, fever, influenza, tuberculosis, rheumatism, high fever, runny nose, sore throat, muscle pains, headache, coughing, sneezing, and feeling tired. etc.) can be easily avoided . Moreover, the usual diseases of the nasopharynx (such as polyps, adenoids, deformation of the nasal septum and the most common of all diseases - chronic rhinitis) can also be mainly prevented by simple regular care of this organ.
NASYA KARMA is also indicated in various diseases of the supraclavicular region such as stiff neckand jaw, headache, migraine, graying of hair, baldness, facial palsy, aphonia, stammeringor alteration of voice, hoarseness of voice, corrhyza, tonsillitis, sinusitis, rhinitis.
The nasal passages - nostrils, pingale (right) and ide (left) - closely related to the nervous system. Cleansing the nasal cavity is of most importance even those who have lost their sense of taste.
Usually, all the dust that a person inhales settles on the mucous membrane of the nasal cavity and is pushed out by tiny cilia that constantly move. In this way, they remove germs that enter the nasal cavity; and moreover, the mucus in the nasal cavity has bactericidal properties and destroys a large number of bacteria. But still, given the amount of dust we breathe, the poor-quality food and poisonous drinks that we absorb daily, the disruption of the activity of the biophysical mechanism of our body is inevitable. In addition, dust accumulates in the nasal passages.
You cannot remove all the dust and mucus that collects in the nose, especially if the person is sleeping on one side, and this dirt begins to dry in the lower part of the nasal passage and temporarily blocks it. The slightest decrease in the volume of inhaled air, which arose in the presence of harmful accumulations in the nasal passages, violates the natural ease of breathing, and this, in turn, has a devastating effect on the composition and number of blood cells, as well as on the blood circulation process itself, and, in addition, functional disorders of the vascular, digestive, nervous and other systems. As a result of all this, the overall viability of the body is reduced.
In order to begin antitoxic treatment (mala-shuddhi) at this stage, it is necessary first of all to eliminate the root cause of the disturbance of the normal activity of the organism. Therefore, the nasal cavity must begin to clean before other organs. After all, blocking one nostril, which is now becoming so common in adults, leads to premature aging due to the fact that there is a chronic lack of air and, consequently, an overflow of blood vessels in the vessels. Yoga claims that blocking one nostril adversely affects the circulation of energy through the human body, since the harmony between the solar (pingala) and lunar (ida) electromagnetic currents is disturbed. It also affects the temperature of the body, the pulse and, consequently, the general condition of the body, impairs the process of thinking and reduces the ability to concentrate. But such problems can certainly and easily be avoided with the daily care of the nasal cavity.

Yoga philosophy believse that each nostril is connected to a Nadi, which in Sanskrit translates to the word river, or flow. These channels are not nerves but far more subtle conduits of pranic energy that intersect at the chakras which lie along the length of the spine, as discussed earlier. Each nostril corresponds to a dominant activity that takes place in the opposite hemisphere of the brain.
Left Nostril : Ida Nadi, Left side of the body, Right Brain dominance, the feminine and creative principle.
The breath that is drawn in through the left nostril is known as Ida, the lunar channel. It runs energetically down the left side of the spinal cord, and impacts the right hemisphere of the brain. It is symbolically represented by the moon, and by the feminine aspect of energy known as Shakti. Left nostril dominant breathing activates the Parasympathetic nervous system, the state that you enter during a great relaxing savasana or restorative portion of your yoga practice, or any activities where you find yourself in an effortless state of creative flow.

Right Nostril: Pingala Nadi, Right side of the body, Left Brain dominance, the masculine and analytical principle.
The right nostril breath is known as Pingala, and is the solar channel. Not surprisingly this breath is heating in nature, and is associated with masculine energy through the archetype of Shiva. When we draw breath in the through the right nostril, or more accurately when the breath is dominant through this channel it activates our left hemisphere of our brain. This is the part of our brain which is associated with our Sympathetic Nervous System – that elevated state of stress, or the ‘fight or flight response’ – a throwback from our primitive ancestors as a way of keeping us alive, and out of immediate danger. The left hemisphere of the brain is more analytical in nature.

Neti : Purification of the Nose
Has a positive influence on all sense organs in the head. Strengthens vision and relieves tired eyes (e.g. after working long hours at the computer). Neti can also be helpful in relieving headaches. Memory and concentration are improved. It is also beneficial for problems associated with the nasal and sinus cavities. Neti has a preventative effect against head colds and sinusitis. With regular use, Neti can also cure or at least ease hay fever and pollen allergies.
Ayurveda emphasizes the role of environmental factors, daily routine, seasonal changes, lifestyle, diet, regular exercise, and body tonics(rasayana) in maintaining health. It also emphasizes that all needs of the body and senses must be in balance in order to avoid illness and maintain good health.
