સુવર્ણપ્રાશન Swarnaprashana

A unique Ayurvedic Method to boost immunity and intelligence.

A situation in which you are protected against disease is called body strength or we can say immuned. In ayurved it is coined by term Vyadhikshamatva. Body strength or immunity can be correlated with Ojas that is bala (strength) of the body. Swarnaprashan is one of the methods which increase Sahaja bala or Ojas of the body without any adverse effect. It reduce the recurrent attacks of infections and help to improves digestive and metabolic power.

Swarnaprashana boosts the immunity as well as intellectual power of a child. Gold has anti-aging quality (Rasayana) and ability to target drugs to the site (yogavahi).

Swarnaprashana has been traditionally practiced as a formula for growing child to improve growth and development as well as to promote longer and healthy life.

The benefits of Swarnaprashana in children are multidimensional.

Brain development is continued up to 2 years and at this stage by Swarnaprashan we can accelerate the growth of brain.

Gold strengthens the body, beneficial for heart (hridya), good for eyes (chakshusaya), improves intellectual power, rejuvenative (rasayan), also helpful to cure many diseases as anemia, tuberculosis, diarrhea, colitis, heart disease, etc. It has immunomodulating effect. It improves the recurrent attacks of common cold, fever and reversible asthma.

There are several references of the Swarnaprashana in Ayurvedic literatures mentioning its actions Medha vardhana (promoting intelligence), Bala Vardhana (increasing physical strength and vigour), Punya (reward), Ayushakaraka (promoting longevity), Smriti and Mati (attentiveness) Medhavardhana (improving intellect), Agnivardhana (promoting digestion and metabolism), Balavardhana (promoting immunity and physical strength), Ayushyam (Promoting longevity), Mangalam (auspicious), Punyam (Virtuous), Varnya (improves complexion), Vrishya (fertility), Grahapaham (protection against infectious organisms).

Swarnaprashana can be achieved at multiple levels likeas a general health promoter and in specific to enhancement of intelligence, digestion, metabolism, immunity, physical strength, complexion, or fertility. Swarnaprashana can be administered in all children as it acts at the level of nutrition, metabolism, growth and development, physical strength, and immunity.

Further it has been mentioned that by feeding gold for one month, child becomes extremely intelligent and is not attacked by the diseases and by using for six months, is able to retain what-so-ever he/she hears. According to Sushruta, Swarnaprashana helps in escalating Bala (strength) and Buddhi (memory) and thereby aiding in proper development of a child.

As per Acharya Sushruta, Swarna has to be administered along with Madhu (honey) and Ghrita (ghee) in one among the procedures of Jathakarma samskara.

Administration of processed gold in children is a unique practice mentioned in Ayurveda as "Swarnaprashana" by Acharya Kashyapa thousands of years back.

Swarnaprashana can be administered in infants and children up to 16 years of age for their physical, mental and intellectual wellbeing.

Rasayana is a unique concept of Ayurveda, that is claimed to increase the lifespan, intelligence, strength and able to prevent the disease.

Medhaagnibalvardhanam means improvement in intelligency, digestive power, and strength of body, Ayusha means improvement in life span, Mangalya means auspicious, Punya means sacred, Vrishya means aphrodisiac, Grahapaham means relieves all bad effects of grahas. If SwarnaPrashan administer to child for one month, child becomes Parammedhavi means Genious and if administering for six months, child becomes Shruta Dhara means he/she can remember all things whatever they listen.

Manusmriti, the ancient Indian literature of rectitude, mentions that a Dwija (brahmin) has to undergo Samskara (purificatory rite) like Jatakarma (procedures at birth) and Chudakarana (ceremony of tonsure) to get rid of the impurities, which may be present in the Bija (sperm and ovum) and also due to the stay inside the womb as Garbha (fetus). Here, Jatakarma Samskara (newborn care) is told as a purification procedure, in which soon after cutting the umbilical cord the baby is made to lick the mixture of gold, honey, and ghee by chanting Mantra (spiritual hymns).

In hindu dhrama granthas about 16-40 sanskar are described, but in practice 16 sanskars are performed. Jatakarma Sanskar is the first sanskar, which is described by Acharya Charaka.

This is a technique of cleansing complete digestive and excretory tract ie from mouth to anus.

Here we have one of the most important comprehensive cleansing process, which cleanses all the way from the mouth to the anus. Approximately seven meter long folded intestine is called Shankha, a conch shell. Prakshalana means to wash thoroughly. In certain texts, Shankaprakshalana is also named Varisara Dhauti.

In the intestines, ‘residue’ accumulates, waste products remain sitting in the small folds of the intestines, around which tensions can arise, binding energy and affecting one’s well-being. When the intestines are rinsed, the residue and tensions are removed. When the coarse tensions are removed from the stomach and abdomen, you have the released energy at your disposal, and the body feels light and healthy. The skin becomes clean and soft and various kinds of skin allergies and eczema are relieved, and sometimes even disappear completely. It is therefore highly recommended for those with chronic constipation, gas, acidity, indigestion and other digestive ailments. It is beneficial for the kidneys and urinary systems,
preventing infection and kidney stones.

Shankaprakshalana purifies the blood, detoxifies the body and helps to develop good digestion. It eliminates allergies (e.g. hay fever) and skin diseases (e.g. acne, neurodermatitis or psoriasis). Further, it is helpful for springtime lethargy and has a balancing effect upon the mind. By practicing one gets a luminous or shining body. Means it creates a repair action which affects the lungs, nervous system, skin, sinus area, the whole body, continuing while the person follows the regime of special food and asanas.

Most importantly, after Shankaprakshalana, one must strictly follow the restricted diet for a minimum of the first 7-10 days. If you cannot abide by these food restrictions, then you must not do Shankaprakshalana. The diet in itself is not particularly strict, but your adherence to it, and your own self discipline, need to be strict or you will just create a recipe for personal damage.

In addition to drinking the salted water, 5 stretching exercises are practiced to encourage the washing of the digestive organ.

JALA NETI

Jala neti has a significant role in improving the presence of mind and intelligence.

Jala neti, the warm salty water flow through one side of the nasal cavity and out the other nostril. It is helpful to remove all dirt and bacteria filled mucus from within the nose.
Jala neti is also helpful for headaches, epilepsy, depression and general mental tension. Nose Cleansing, Neti, where salt water at body temperature is poured through the nose, and stomach cleansing, Kunjal Kriya, where salt water is drunk on an empty stomach and then vomited. The entire nose area is relaxed and cleaned from inside: Mucus, dust and dirt, even pollen and allergy provoking particles are gently rinsed out, which eradicates Kaphaja disorders and improves vision. Improper management of sinusitis and associated symptoms lead to asthma.

Neti is a technique to cleanse the nasal passages. It is a cleansing process related to the upper part of the respiratory system. Neti cleanses cranium, gives clear sight and alleviates diseases which manifest above the root of the neck. It also increases blood circulation and functional efficiency of the nasal mucosa. It provides a relaxing and irrigating effect upon the eyes by stimulating the tear ducts and glands. It has a positive effect on cognitive faculties like memory, concentration and is beneficial in reducing anxiety and depression.

What actually happens as a result of the salt-water bath is “In the sinuses and mucus membranes microscopic hairs are found, the so called cilia ( On the surface of the mucous membranes – present in the nostrils, sinuses, trachea, bronchial tubes and auditory canals (between the nose and middle ear) – are microscopic hairs called cilia), that all vibrate in the same direction. Under a microscope, they resemble a cornfield swaying in the wind. The cilia are coated with a layer of mucus that catch dust, bacteria, pollen and white blood corpuscles. Through their motion, the mucus membrane acts as a conveyor belt, transporting the mucus and caught particles through the nose, down the throat and further on to the stomach”. Therefore, it is not only the mucus membranes in the nose that are stimulated by the use of neti, but also the rest of the air passage all the way down to the lungs, which is especially beneficial to smokers. Actually, nose cleansing activates all the mucus membranes in the body, also in the stomach and in the eyes. “The movement of the cilia hairs can be paralysed by virus and allergy provoking substances, and also when it dries out, the mucus becomes tough and crusty and looses its function. Cleansing with salt water keeps the mucus moist, the cilia hairs are stimulated and encrustations, dust as well as allergy provoking substances are removed”. “The nasal cavity is connected to the sinuses with small orifices. When during a cold these channels are closed because of swollen mucus membranes, it can lead to sinusitis. By nose cleansing these channels are kept clear”.

Regular use of neti can also prevent colds, as it changes the pH-value towards alkaline. When the mucus membrane is too acidic, that is to say, when the pH-value is too low, the virus can survive and become attached to the mucus membrane and thus develop into an infection. Contrarily, if the pH-value is higher, the virus dies. “Many people can even experience sinusitis-like symptoms when the orifices close for other reasons such as stress reactions or overwork”, it is also clear why neti can consistently relieve psychosomatic ailments such as asthma since during asthma attacks the mucus membranes become swollen, and make breathing difficult when the air passage is obstructed by mucus. As a daily routine together with brushing the teeth, as “medicine” when one has use for it, as help when one wants to stop smoking, together with the breathing exercises of yoga, or simply just when one feels like being refreshed.

In the yoga tradition, neti is one of the so-called Hatha Yoga methods, that is various ways clean the body. There are similar methods for the eyes, stomach and intestines.

Neti is recommended for alleviating nasal and sinus disorders, improving nasal breathing, increasing mental clarity, and as a preparation for yoga and meditation.

So, these are the reasons why neti helps in relieving and preventing the common cold, sinusitis, asthma, allergies and infections of the airways, as well as problems caused by air pollution.

Dry environments reduce the cilia’s effectiveness by drying out the mucous membranes. Nose cleansing restores their natural moisture and reduces swelling of the mucous membranes, which causes nasal congestion.

Nose cleansing stimulates and relaxes the area around the eyes and forehead. This may reduce headaches caused by nervous tension. Some experience clearer vision or an enhanced sense of smell. Neti to be a useful aid to stop smoking.

When you do neti regularly, breathing through your nose becomes easier. The incoming air is warmed and filtered. Nitrogen monoxide, produced in the sinuses, is carried with the breath to the lungs, where it dilates the blood vessels, thus increasing oxygen uptake. It improves your general state of health when regularly you rinse your nose.

Brahma Muhurta, also known as Ambrosial hours. It is the most vital time of the day & during this period has a greater effect on our body, mind, and soul than any other parts of the day. And hence his/her life becomes beautiful like a lotus. It increases our energy level and boosts our immune system.

Therefore, rising at this time, the effect of outside world which is very calm, serene, quiet, peaceful, tranquil, still etc. gives positive energy to our mind, body, soul, desire etc. At this time, Prana and Apaana Vayu are active. Because this period is of vata dominated, a high level of Prana (vital life energy) which is none other than the Vata itself in another form which is necessary for the body to perform in its best is adequately present in the atmosphere.

During this time, the tamasik powers are in sleeping state. Mind and intelligence are positively oriented. One can quickly get absorbed in Meditation. Many great sages remember the lord at this time.

That’s why, the Ambrosial hours is compared to the period between the garbhavaas and coming out from the garbha. So, whatever bad influence we have got during our stay in womb on physical and mental levels, this brahma muhurta provides an opportunity daily to improve that.

As per Ashtanga Hridayam " One should wake up in the Brahma Muhurata for sustaining perfect health and for achieving a long life span as desired.

The benefits of awakening early are manifold: Brahm Muhurta is the time prior to sunrise. Brahm Muhurta is that golden time of the universe when the ida(moon) and pingala(sun) energies converge their flow of prana(vital life force) in the sushumna (core of the spine) channel and hence it is to be harnessed for meditation. The Brahm Muhurta is Sattvic( purity) in nature and aids positive spiritual growth. They say that one who awakens in Brahm Muhurta defeats all negative planetary influences on the birth charts.

As per Ayurveda, the night is made up of three parts, the last being a vata (airy in nature) predominant time. This vata enery is apt to harness the active component of body movement and enthusiasm. All body organs and mental activity are stimulated by the vata principle and hence the physio- pyschological balance is created for a healthy start to the day. The brain tunes into day-to-day circadian rhythms which are resolved to work better due to the pineal gland (deeper brain centers), which is responsible for release of melatonin for better functioning of the endocrine system and the individual as a whole. The pineal gland is believed to be the "principal seat of the soul" and is the hub for the conduit of the physiological with the spiritual, which in yogic anatomy pertains to the energy flowing in the sushumna converging at the crown chakra (the seventh and final plexus).

According to Ayurveda, a whole day consists of three doshas i.e Vata, pitta, and kapha. There is specific time period for these doshas.

Kapha- Starts from sunrise until 10 AM and it starts again from 6 PM to 10 PM.
Pitta-Starts from 10 AM to 2 PM and it starts again from 10 PM to 2 AM.
Vata- starts from 2 AM to sunrise and it starts again from 2 PM to 6 PM.
And hence, Ambrosial hours comes under Vata period of the early morning.

Undisturbed state of vata which is found during this period is the best period of a twenty four hours day and night cycle for all the practices which require everyday attention. To learn and realise subtler aspect of spiritual growth of life, this is the period considered as the best.

Getting after sunrise imbalances Kapha dosha in the body, which dominated during this period of time And starting the biological activity during this time which is not at all good and increases mucus activity in the body.

During Brahma Muhurta, the concentration of oxygen being more in the atmosphere results in more effective Pranayama and enables better cleansing of the nadis and Prana through meditation.

Awakening in the early hours results in improved strength, knowledge, beauty and health.

The disturbed life style upsets the biological clock, as a result various problems like diabetes, obesity, Insomnia etc are evolved.

WHAT ARE SHATKARMAS? A WAY TO PURIFY BODY

 The Shatkarmas: Yogic Cleansing

Yogic science gives as much importance to certain cleansing processes as it does to asanas or pranayama. Without regular cleansing of the system you will not gain maximum benefits from your practices. Without purification of the body one will not be ready for the higher practices of yoga. When the body is free the mind also functions properly.

As yogic cleansing practices, the shatkarmas result in vibrant physical health and mental clarity to create harmony in everyday living. They especially work on the digestive, circulatory, nervous and respiratory systems of the body as well as to maintain balance between tri-dosh Vata, Pitta & Kapha & to bring chemical functional of the body and mind.

The shatkarmas are yogic cleansing techniques the cleanse the subtle channels of karma as well as remove impurities and restore proper functioning of the physiology of the body. According to Ayurveda, these processes become timely and more deeply understood as to when and how to create balance of the body and mind.

They are essential from the point of view of physical and mental health, and these simple techniques are also highly valuable in healing internal disorders. Shatkarmas are the best yogic practices known for naturally removing toxins from whole body.

Yogic science gives as much importance to specific cleansing processes as it does to asanas or pranayama. It is believed that without the regular cleansing of our body and system, then we will not gain the maximum benefits possible from our yoga practice. When the body is free from impurities and pain, then the mind will also function properly.

The term shatkarma translates as ‘six actions’; within each ‘action’ there are several practices. Each one is powerfully purifying, profoundly cleansing at all levels of ‘being’ and induces self-study (svadhyaya) that subtly alters aspects of the manipulative ego-personality. The ancient rishi’s considered them as essential to the practice of Yoga; the body is purified then trained in Trataka (concentration). Gathered together, these six actions form then foundation of the meditative practices of Raja Yoga.

Before commencing the practice of Pranayama, any imbalance in the doshas should be removed. Physiologically, an effort needs to be made to remove the mucus blocking in the respiratory tracts, excess fats from the body, and excess gastric juice secretions from the stomach. In addition to this, these practices are believed to be producing revitalizing and rejuvenating effect in the organs of various systems. In Hatha Yoga, there are six purification practices specifically designed for serving this purpose. They are Shatkarmas. When we split “Shatkarma,” is the combination of two words “shat” means six and “karma” means action.

Shatkarma are very important from the point of view of physical and mental health, and these simple techniques are also highly valuable in healing internal disorders.

SIX MAIN GROUPS OF SHATKARMAS OR YOGIC CLEANSERS

There are six main groups of shatkarmas or yogic cleansers as follows:
Neti: nasal cleansing, including jala neti and sutra neti
Dhauti: Cleansing of the digestive tract, including danta dhauti, vatsara dhauti and so forth
Nauli: abdominal massage
Basti: colon cleansing
Kapalbhati: purification and vitalization of the frontal lobes
Trataka: blinkless gazing.

These techniques are also important in healing and treating many phycho somatic ailments and internal disorders. These are also steps towards higher practices of meditation and pranayama.

The entire nose area is relaxed and cleaned from inside: Mucus, dust and dirt, even pollen and allergy provoking particles are gently rinsed out.

What actually happens as a result of the salt-water bath is “In the sinuses and mucus membranes microscopic hairs are found, the so called cilia, that all vibrate in the same direction.

Neti cleanses the cranium and bestows clairvoyance. It also destroys all diseases that manifest above the throat.

In the yoga tradition, neti is one of the so-called Hatha Yoga methods, that is various ways clean the body. There are similar methods for the eyes, stomach and intestines.

Each of these groups contains more than one practice. Which will be described at various stages throughout our journey into Kriya Yoga. They are all excellent practices which are designed to purify the whole body and bring about first-class health. They also bring clarity and harmony to the mind.

Danta Dhauti : The Sanskrit word danta means 'teeth', dhauti means 'wash' and moola means 'root'. Therefore this practice is concerned with cleaning the teeth and gums.

Danta Dhauti, one of the shatkarmas, consists of a series of simple practices which clean various organs in regions of the head. These practices are danta moola dhauti (cleaning of the teeth and gums), jihva moola dauti (cleaning of the tongue), kapal randhra dhauti (washing of the skull), karna dhauti (cleaning the ears) and chakshu dahuti (washing the eyes).

The mouth is the gateway to the body and a favourite breeding ground for bacteria. Some of these germs proceed further into the body while many remain in food particles trapped in the teeth cavities. The vulnerable time for tooth decay and the build-up of bacteria in the teeth and gums is in the first half an hour or so after meals. It is for this reason that ideally the teeth and gums should be cleaned immediately after each meal.

Jihva Moola Dhauti
The Sanskrit word jihva means 'tongue' and moola means 'root'. This practice is therefore concerned with cleaning the tongue and its root.
The Sanskrit word jihva means 'tongue' and moola means 'root'. This practice is therefore concerned with cleaning the tongue and its root.

PRACTICE
Danta Moola Dhauti : Preferably after each meal. If not, at least once daily
Danta Moola Dhauti : Preferably after each meal. If not, at least once daily
Jihva Moola Dhauti : Once daily in the morning
Kama Dhauti : Once a week
Eye exercises : As necessary
Jala Neti : As necessary, but at least once every week

These practices, as well as jala neti, are concerned either directly or indirectly with the main senses of the body -- hearing, seeing, smelling, and tasting. As such, they are important in enabling us to gain the best possible perception of the world around us. The use of Jala Neti is one of the key ingredients in a healthy dinacharya (daily routine) practice.

Danta moola dhauti (cleaning of the teeth and gums)
Jihva moola dauti (cleaning of the tongue)
Kapal randhra dhauti (washing of the skull)
Karna dhauti (cleaning the ears)
Chakshu dahuti (washing the eyes)

When the different systems of the body have been purified, the overall result is that energy can flow through the body freely. One's capacity to work, think, digest, taste, feel, experience, etc., increases and greater awareness develops.

Hatha Yoga Pradipika Chapter 2 verse 21 – 37[1]

When fat or mucus is excessive, shatkarma; the six cleansing techniques, should be practiced before (Pranayama). Others, in whom the doshas, i.e. phlegm, wind and bile are balanced should not do them.

There is no doubt that coughs, asthma, diseases of the spleen, leprosy and other twenty kinds of diseases caused by excess mucus are managed or eliminated through the effects of dhauti karma.

Enlargement of the spleen and all diseases arising from excess wind, bile and mucus are eliminated from the body through the practice of basti.

By practicing basti the appetite increases, the body glows, excess doshas are destroyed and the dhatu, senses and mind are purified.

Trataka : It is still-gazing based technique for eyes. Looking intently with an unwavering gaze at a small point until tears are shed is known as trataka. Trataka eradicates the eye of all diseases, fatigue and sloth and closes the doorway to creating those problems.

Lean forward, protrude the abdomen and rotate (the muscles) from right to left with speed, where the muscles of the abdomen are rotated, massaging the intestines and kindling the digestion. This is called nauli by the siddhas. Nauli is foremost of the Hatha yoga practices. It kindles the digestive fire, removing indigestion, sluggish digestion and all disorders of the doshas and brings about happiness. Nauli cleanses the internal organs and abdominal region such as side-to-side rolling motion of the abdominal muscles. Nauli is also beneficial for those people who are suffering from diabetes. Nauli encourages a weak gastric fire, restore the digestion and dries up all defects and diseases. The exercise may clean the small intestine and eliminate digesting problems. Nauli should not be performed by pregnant women or people with hypertension, heart diseases, or various gastrointestinal ailments.

Kapal Means Skull and Bhati means shining. In this practice, the breath is forcefully exhaled through the nostrils by firmly concentrate in the abdominal muscles after which the inhalation happens naturally. Perform exhalation and inhalation rapidly like a bellows (of a blacksmith). This is kapalabati and destroys all the mucus disorders. Kapalabhati (breath of fire) is warming and energizing, purifying the body through the creation of heat and the movement of energy. The breathing exercise Kapalabhati cleanses the lungs. It is also said to “purify the frontal region of the brain” (partly by oxidising the blood). This is a great cleanser for the respiratory passages including the sinuses.

“With most of mankind the mind is very little developed and is entirely under the control of the body. By learning to control the body, we can easily control the mind.” ............Sw. Vishnu-devananda

Though the digestive tract runs continuously from mouth the anus, it tends to be considered as having discrete sections, however it functions as a whole; indeed the mind-body-spirit is an integral system. Dhauti, the cleansing practices, assist the efficient movement of food throughout the alimentary canal. Sluggishness in any section affects the entire tract detrimentally, and also has impact on associated organs that work in tandem with it, e.g. liver, gallbladder, pancreas etc. While the entire existence and continuation of a healthy individual depends on the effective function of the digestive system, it is habitually abused, either through ignorance or desire; the shatkarmas provide methods for redress. Dhauti cleans out old bile, mucus and permits release of impurities from the blood; it becomes possible for the sub-conscious-inner-wisdom of the body to rebalance the natural harmony of the subtle chemistry.

The six cleansing practices of shatkarma purify the body by physically removing excesses of mucus or phlegm. Through the yogic practices of asana, pranayama, tapas and shatkarma, the body and the mind have become cleansed.

Nadi Sodhana (alternate nostril breath) is calming and cleansing, purifying the body through reducing stress and removing blockages in the nadis (energy channels).

Ayurveda is the art of daily living in harmony with the laws of nature. It is an ancient natural wisdom of health and healing, a science of life. The aims and objectives of this science are to maintain the health of a healthy person and to heal the disease of an unhealthy person. Both prevention (maintenance of good health) and healing are carried out by entirely natural means. It is a holistic system of healing in the truest sense. Ayurveda encompasses diet and nutrition, lifestyle, exercise, rest and relaxation, meditation, breathing exercises, and medicinal herbs, along with cleansing and rejuvenation programs for healing body, mind, and spirit.

This is why the Ayurvedic system of medicine speaks of the need for healing for every individual in every walk of life.

To maintain health and balance, we have to juggle with the three doshas, taking action to increase or decrease vata, pitta, or kapha as conditions demand. This requires moment-to-moment awareness, moment-to-moment healing.

BOOST ENERGY LEVELS & IMMUNITY WITH AYURVEDIC DINCHARYA

How the ancient system of dinacharya can help you reach optimal wellness?

For me, Ayurveda is a living body of a wisdom that it is constantly evolving, transforming, and growing.

Dincharya is the Ayurvedic Wisdom of practicing each day lives well. Dincharya teaches how to construct a daily routine with practical wisdom suited to your own Being.

Dincharya is a Sanskrit term referring to the daily practice or routine founded on Ayurvedic principles. In Sanskrit, ‘din’ means day or daily and ‘charya’ can mean activity, behavior, conduct, practice, performance as regular routines create stability, which in turn promotes personal balance, which is one of the key aspects of Ayurvedic living, designed to guide us towards living in alignment with nature and in a way that best suits our individual dosha or ‘mind-body type.

We humans are natural beings, designed to be in sync with the rhythms of nature. When we fall out of rhythm, we lose touch with our true nature. Living in harmony with nature brings us closer to our true selves. This practice reduces stress and creates a classical pattern, making you feel hungry naturally at regular intervals. Adopting a balanced routine will helps you maintain healthy agni.

The different times of day are said to be governed by a different energy or dosha, which in turn influences how we feel and which actions would benefit us most. The hours of 2am-6am are governed by the Vata dosha, comprised of the elements air and ether. Vata is all about lightness, movement, quickness, irregularity and creativity. 6am-10am is governed by Kapha dosha and the elements earth and water, giving a sense of stability, heaviness, slowness, coolness and steadiness. 10am-2pm is governed by Pitta dosha, made up of the elements fire and water. Pitta energy is hot and fiery, sometimes acidic, sharp and focussed. Pitta energy is strongest at midday when the fire of the sun is highest in the sky, and when our digestion is strongest.

Each four hour time period is dominated by one dosha, and thus influenced by the qualities of that dosha. There is a vata, pitta and kapha time of day and a vata, pitta and kapha time of night.

The hours of 2am-6am are governed by the Vata dosha, The lightness of vata dosha at this time of day is supportive to waking up with a sense of lightness and clarity, the perfect conditions for meaningful spiritual practice and mindful self-enquiry. This time of the morning is dedicated for prayer and meditation, the recitation of scriptures and hymns, and self-reflection.

Ayurveda teaches that it’s best to get up in the morning before 6:00 am. This is because at 6:00 am, kapha becomes dominant. As kapha is the energy of water and earth, and thus is heavy and sluggish. Kappa becomes dominant again from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm, when the water and earth elements accumulate once again. During this period eat a light early dinner - don’t overeat at dinner – avoid heavy food, and go to early bed. The pitta time of night is from 10:00 pm to 2:00 am, and it is important to be sleeping during this time, because the activity that now takes place is inside you; this is the time of internal cleansing. Do not miss out the benefit of this cleansing time of day by remain awake during this time. Your body will say thank you for this. Being in bed by 10pm will ensure 7-8 hours of refreshing, detoxifying sleep that will leave you revitalised and re-energised. It is also a good practice to apply oil to the scalp and the soles of the feet before bed to calm the nervous system and promote sound sleep.

Again the pitta time of night is from 10:00 pm to 2:00 am & this period is also a second ‘digestive phase’ but it is not intended for digesting large quantities of food or heavy food stuffs works as on midday. The metabolism work differently than at midday and is far less efficient in terms of breaking down the contents of the stomach and intestines.

Again Vata time returns from 2:00 am to 6:00 am, as this is the time of receptivity. During this time of the day when air and ether dominate, is the best time of day for meditation, prayer, chanting and other spiritual practices. It is the most sattvic, peaceful, and still time of day and is an ideal time for spiritual practice. By arising prior to 6:00 am, you are able to maximize this experience, spending this peaceful time of day in spiritual pursuits. We will imbibe the positive qualities of alertness, vibrancy, enthusiasm, energy, clarity, strengthened intuition and motivation.

Ayurveda recommends purifying the senses each day. Refresh and energise the mind by splashing the face and eyes with cool or luke-warm water. Gently wash the ears and apply a thin coat of herbal oil to the inside of the ear with your little finger. Use a neti pot with saline solution to cleanse the nasal passages. Brush the teeth. Scrape the tongue using a tongue cleaner to remove any coating. Notice your tongue each morning. A thick coating is indicative of ama, or toxins in the digestive tract. Scraping the tongue helps to purify your sense of taste and benefits the internal organs. Finally, gargle with warm water, or salt water to help purify and strengthen the voice and keep the gums, mouth and throat healthy.

Following dinacharya is a way to bring more awareness to all of the habits and choices we make throughout the day. Conscious awareness in our daily lives enables us to be whole and healthy beings, bringing us closer to our true selves. Living in harmony with the cycles of nature is not only the path to health, but to true freedom.

An early night ensures deep, refreshing sleep. Deep, refreshing sleep ensures one wakes early - rested and revitalised. Waking early - rested and revitalised - ensures time for massage, yoga and meditation. Massage, yoga and meditation ensure the mind and body are awake and alive.

By listening & following to the nature's rhythms, she will reward you with optimal health, balance, and peace of mind.

Pitta time which begins at 10:00 am and continues until 2:00 pm - the time that the sun is highest in the sky, and there is more heat during this time. Pitta is the dosha of heat, as it is made of fire and water. During this time of day, heat will naturally predominate in our bodies and minds. With a pitta nature is likely to experience an increase of heat symptoms within the body at this time, including burning indigestion, skin rashes, or even flares of temper.

The Ayurvedic clock, and the daily habits are very intuitive. As we rise and go to bed as close to sunrise and sunset as possible, we attune our eating habits to the cycle of the sun (and the seasons) because we are diurnal beings and our digestive needs change throughout the year. We move daily because that’s what our bodies are designed to do, we meditate and take care of our sense organs. So, we practice self-care & Dincharya regularly, because our body is the most precious instrument that we have, and we get only one for our lifetime.

I am offering a series of Ayurvedic Dincharya by attuning your daily habits to nature’s rhythm according to your unique dosha (mind-body) constitution, designed to get you acquainted with basic Ayurvedic ‘maps’ which distills and decodes some of Ayurveda’s guiding principles. AYURVEDIC HEALTH CARE SYSTEM : EMBODY YOUR TRUE POTENTIAL : STAYING HEALTHY WITH AYURVEDA

When we “do” Ayurveda the Dosha are able to function correctly and create health.

One whose doshas are in balance, whose appetite is good, whose dhatus are functioning normally, whose malas are in balance, and whose physiology, mind and senses are always full of bliss, is called a healthy person.

From the five bhutas, each of which are found in the human body, arise the tridoshas. These five elements combine with each other to form the three humors of Vata, Pitta and Kapha (also called as the Tridoshas in unison) which is the cornerstone of Ayurvedic philosophy. From ether and air, the vata dosha is created. From fire and water, the pitta dosha is created and from water and earth, the kapha dosha is created. Doshas are resting states, from which mind/body constitutional types are created. They are dynamic energy forces or inner principles within the living body which govern the entire organism. Ayurvedic theory states that all human bodies are not the same, so there are seven basic doshic prakrutis, or constitutions, arising from vata, pitta and kapha and their combinations: vata, pitta, kapha, vata-pitta, vata-kapha, pitta-kapha, and vata-pitta-kapha. It is thus possible to be uni-doshic, bi-doshic, or tri-doshic (fully balanced, which is very rare). The word roots of the tridoshas are as follows: vata, from the Sanskrit roots va which means motion, and ganthana which means sensation; thus, vata originates all movement in the body and governs mainly all nervous functions. Pitta comes from tap, which means heat, thus pitta governs mainly the enzymes and hormones, respiration for digestion, pigmentation, body temperature, thirst, sight, and courage, and secretions and excretions which are either the means or the ends of tissue combustion. Kapha is derived from the Sanskrit kena jelana phalatiiti which is the fruit or product of water. Kapha regulates the other two doshas and is responsible for the connection of the joints, the solid nature of the body and its substances, sexual power, strength and patience. Ayurvedic health care rests on determining the dosha of each individual, as from the dosha comes a general guide to most appropriate dietary patterns, activity levels and treatment options.

Vata manages all of our physiological functions, like thinking, moving, speaking, breathing, digesting, eliminating and more. Pitta is responsible for converting and metabolizing food, sunlight, visual impressions, thoughts, etc into a form our body can use. Kapha is responsible for our physical structure, such as skin, muscles, bones, organs and all fluids in the body.

Vata dosha tend to be light sleepers, who are sensitive to noise. They awaken easily in early morning hours and have difficulty falling back to sleep. This dosha tends to be more creative, energetic, and quite proficient at multi-tasking. Lifestyle and daily habits tend to be inconsistent and irregular. Pitta types tend to be good sleepers unless they have too much on their minds and stay up late working hours. This dosha usually possess strong appetites, digestion and metabolism. They are focused, goal oriented, intense, and competitive, and may be prone to heated emotions such as anger, irritability, criticism, and jealousy. Kapha dosha tends towards too much sleep. They have difficulty waking up and moving. Their appetite and metabolic processes are slow so they don’t need much food as they speak and move slowly.

Good quality Agni or digestive fire is seen as the centerpiece of health. When agni functions properly, the doshas, tissues and waste products are optimal and health prevails.

Your dosha is a road map of your wellness and disease. It can reveal everything about you, including physical and psychological functions, psycho spiritual aspects, personality, health challenges, exercise preferences, choice of friends and partners as well as how you dress, spend money, furnish your home, optimal career choices, preferred climate, physical environment and more means describes everything about you.

Vata is found in the lower part of the human torso (below the navel, urinary, bladder, pelvic region, thighs, legs, and bones), Pitta in the middle part (between the navel and chest, concentrated in the small intestine, stomach, sweat, lymph, and blood), and Kapha in the upper part (thorax, head, neck, joints and fat tissues).

Human has five senses and through these senses he perceives the external world in five different ways. The sense organs are the ears, the skin, the eyes, the tongue and the nose. Through these sense organs, the external object is not only perceived, but also absorbed into the human body in the form of energy. These five types of senses are the basis on which the entire universe is divided, grouped or classified in five different ways, and they are known as five Mahabhutas.… According to Ayurveda, the body of the individual is composed of five Mahabhutas. Similarly, other things of the world are also composed of five Mahabhutas. In the human body these five Mahabhutas are explained in terms of Doshas, Dhatus and Malas…

According to Ayurveda, the human body is composed of three fundamental categories called Doshas, Dhatus and Malas. The Doshas are three in number, the Dhatus are seven, and the Malas are three.

The Three Doshas are composed of the five Mahabhutas, but one or the other is predominant, with the other four are in lesser dominance. There can never be a state when one or the other Mahabhuta is absent totally. All five are essential to sustain life. Proper balance among these three Doshas is essential for good health.

Prakriti is specific for each individual which is determined at the time of conception. Prakriti is composed of three Gunas: Sattva, Rajas and Tamas.

Sushruta clearly describes the five Mahabhutas as being constituted by the Trigunas. According to him (S.S. III. 1.20.), Akasa is predominant with Sattva, Vayu with Rajas, Agni with Sattva–Rajas, Jala with Sattva–Tamas, and Prithvi with Tamas. Charaka and Sushruta clearly state that Vata Dosha is a combination of Akasa and Vayu, Pitta Dosha of Agni and Jala and Kapha Dosha of Jala and Prithvi.

These doshas are the ‘governing principles’ of ‘Intelligence’ that literally govern everything in the universe…and therefore each one of us. While each of us has some of each dosha & the proportion of the doshas in your ‘make-up’ will be different from those around you. Because the doshas govern ‘everything’ in the universe, everything you do, affects the balance of doshas within your mind & body. It is not possible that the Doshas are in balance at all times. How is the imbalance of the Doshas to be understood? Can this imbalance be brought back into a state of balance? If so, as is dictated by Ayurvedic principles, then how is it to be done? Vata, pitta, and kapha are each essential to our physiology in some way, so no one dosha is better than, or superior to, any other.

In fact, the particular ratio of vata, pitta, and kapha within each of us provides us with a blueprint for optimal health (otherwise known as our constitution), and garners a significant influence on our individual physical, mental, and emotional character traits—as well as our unique strengths and vulnerabilities. If you don’t know your Ayurvedic constitution, please consider setting up your Ayurvedic Profile, an assessment of both your constitution and your current state of balance. When you do, you will also receive a set of personalized recommendations designed to support you in your journey toward optimal health.

Any Imbalances in the doshas are generally caused by diet and lifestyle choices, as well as stress or emotional trauma. These disturbances tend to upset the natural state of internal equilibrium represented by one’s constitution. According to Ayurveda, everyone is born with a mixture of these three doshas. Determining your primary dosha is the first step towards finding your optimal state of balanced, natural health. If you don't know your own unique Ayurvedic body type, i recommended you to call ph nos as cited below and fix your appointment with me.

Your individual mix of doshas is called your ‘Prakriti’. It’s your individual/unique ‘mind-body’ make-up or constitution – your essential ‘Nature’ to be precise.

Vata Dosha is a combination of Sattva and Rajas Gunas means Rajasic—as Rajas Guna overtakes or is stronger than the Sattva Guna. Pitta Dosha is said to be more Sattvic in nature, though it has an element of Rajas and Tamas in it. Kapha Dosha is said to be more Tamasic in nature though it has an element of Sattva in it & no Rajas.

Ayurveda recognizes 16 types of personalities based on the classical Guna theory. Both Charaka and Sushruta Samhitas have a description of these types. According to them, there are 7 types of Sattva, 6 of Rajas and 3 of Tamas, totaling 16 types of personalities under which all people can be grouped.

Therefore Ayurveda is defined as a philosophy and science of life or longevity. It focuses as much on prevention as it does on cure, if not more. Ayurveda has evolved over thousands of years, and there are many different ways it might be practiced.

Your health is your most valuable currency & your body mind is your most valuable asset. If your are healthy and happy, then you can pursue your life’s purpose.

Investing in your health is the highest priority now a days.
