PANCHAKARMA

PANCHAKARMA : BENEFITS FAR BEYOND THEN YOUR EXPECTATIONS
AYURVEDA THE SCIENCE AND WISDOM OF LIFE
Come To The Science And Art Of Ayurveda..
You may know about panchakarma as an Ayurvedic cleanse, but the benefits go far beyond that. People have been undergoing panchakarma for centuries because it not only removes toxins from the tissues of your body, but also promotes healing and rejuvenation in your whole being. That’s because panchakarma centers on rebuilding the strength of agni, digestive fire, along with balancing the three doshas. This brings about profound effects in all aspects of your health, including your mental well-being and spiritual openness.
Panchakarma involves three steps: preparation, the treatments themselves and rejuvenation. The first step prepares your body to release deep-seated toxins, the treatments take care of actually removing them and the rejuvenation period gently guides you back. The final result: angi is rebuilt anew. The agni-balancing effects of panchakarma allow you to utilize nutrients from the food you eat, as well as effectively deal with emotions and experiences in all aspects of life. The results continue long after you have completed the process.
We’ve seen profound changes in people who have gone through our Panchakarma. After years of running this program and seeing the effects firsthand, we can count many positive benefits that come from panchakarma. We’ve whittled them down to six of our favorites.
Six life-changing benefits of panchakarma
1. Being around illness doesn’t mean you will get sick. There is a reason some people get sick while others can stay well even when they are exposed to illness – it all comes down to our ability to digest food and life and maintain strong ojas. That ability comes from agni. When agni is balanced, it supports ojas so you can fend off pathogens.
2. Elimination is no longer a strain. Eliminating less than twice a day or straining during elimination is a sign that vata dosha may be out of balance. Dealing with diarrhea? It’s a likely sign of imbalanced pitta or indigestion. Is your elimination sticky and slow? Excess kapha is at the root. Panchakarma clears blockages on all levels – including the mental ones – to allow for this natural function to happen with ease.
3. Your skin is naturally clear and lustrous. Acne, eczema or unexplained rashes are your body’s way of releasing excess toxins through its largest organ. Toxins are produced when agni is imbalanced and unable to support proper digestion. This can be caused by several factors, including dosha imbalance and the all-too-common practices of eating low-quality foods, poor combinations of foods or overeating in one sitting. People are amazed at how quickly skin issues they’ve had for years benefited after panchakarma. This is because the process of panchakarma addresses the underlying issues to allow your skin to be in a state of natural health.
4. Physical, mental and emotional health are balanced. Panchakarma heals your physical body, as well as your mental and emotional state. All of this allows for greater spiritual connection. After panchakarma, many find themselves with less anxiety and fear (a sign that vata has come back to balance), no more need to criticize themselves or others (a sign that pitta has been properly reduced) and a lighter, more loving attitude (traits of balanced kapha).
5, You can heal from your "healthy” choices. Modern diet trends wreak havoc on agni and have consequences for your mind, body and spirit. Raw foods are difficult to digest and can weaken agni. High-protein meals require your agni and organs to work overtime (it’s like leaving your car engine running all the time). Cold Drinks made with poor food combinations slow agni and distort the digestive environment. Kitchadi, the healing, delicious food you eat during panchakarma, gives your body all the nutrients it needs without making it work too hard. After 10 days of nourishment from kitchadi during panchakarma, your agni is reset and ready for you to adopt a balanced Ayurvedic diet.
6. Food allergies become part of the past. Food allergies and intolerances have their root in imbalanced agni. When agni is weak or slow, food sits in the digestive tract too long. Your body may begin to negatively respond to certain foods, such as wheat or dairy, but these foods are not the problem – imbalanced digestion is the issue. Many people have found that allergies and intolerances they thought would be around for life simply fell away after healing their agni with panchakarma and changing their eating habits afterward.
Your body is meant to be free of pain, illness, and disease. The rishis who wrote the Ayurvedic texts 5,000 years ago knew this. They outlined panchakarma, a powerful Ayurvedic whole-being cleanse and rejuvenation practice. Ayurvedic wisdom is as true today as it was then.
When ama, or toxins, build up from poor diet, disharmony or stress, the disease process starts. Panchakarma, when combined with an ongoing conscious lifestyle, can boost your body’s natural defenses to reverse this process.
Body detoxification and cleansing practices have become very popular. While many of these one-size-fits-all practices offer short-term relief, problems often return because they only cleanse what is sitting in the digestive tract. Panchakarma is different because it draws toxins out of the deeper tissues and into the digestive tract to be dispelled. The plan is designed for your specific doshic imbalance and the purification processes are nestled in between phases of preparation and rejuvenation to optimize your body to the cleanse. The result: removal of deep seated toxins and a gentle and total reconditioning of the colon and digestive tract.
We’ve been supporting people through panchakarma for decades and have seen firsthand the impact. People with unexplained skin rashes watch them dry up and benefitted. People who have struggled with mental instability and digestive issues benefitted those with panchakarma. This is what can happen when we allow ourselves space for deep healing.
If you’re considering panchakarma, here are a few things to keep in mind:
Work with a trained and trusted Ayurvedic practitioner who can assess your state and guide you to the right practices.
Panchakarma can do wonders to prevent small health concerns from becoming greater, but it may not be suitable for people who are already very ill, have high blood pressure, or are emaciated. Pregnant women should not undergo panchakarma.
Get ready for a time of cleansing, introspection, and healing. Reduce your stress and work obligations. Carve out time for meditation and journaling, and ask your family or partner for extra support.
The time after the 10 days is very important for rejuvenation. It's best not to have stressful plans immediately following panchakarma, including flights or big events. This time is when the changes integrate and create the new you.
Some people are intimidated by the idea of panchakarma, but the process of letting go of old toxins can shine light on new parts of yourself. In order to grow, we must let go. This is where true healing begins.
Panchakarma is a truly life-changing experience and one of the best gifts you can give yourself. Have you experienced the positive effects of panchakarma? ....H. Pule

During the metabolic processes of the body, Ayurveda recognizes that metabolic waste is produced and must be properly eliminated to maintain optimal health. Waste materials are called malas. Obstruction to their removal is another causative factor in disease.
Ayurveda also emphases the importance of keeping the body clean and pure. Toxins, both external and intrinsic to the body, interfere with the flow of waste material out of the cells resulting in impaired function. To remove these toxins, Ayurveda employs a technique known as Panchakarma, meaning "the five actions." This is a program performed for 7-28 days at a specialized center. Panchakarma utilizes a restricted diet, massage therapies, additional medicated oil therapies, medicated steam therapies, and elimination therapies such as enemas, purgation, and nasal/sinus cleansing with special oils snorted into the nasal passages. This last treatment is called nasya. Historically, and in some parts of the world currently, two additional therapies are utilized. They are therapeutic vomiting and blood letting with leeches. In addition to these physical modalities, the patient retreats from the world and enjoys time for meditation and reflection.

Ayurveda is an anytime, anywhere, anyone sort of wisdom; a universal way of living wisely that can be easily adopted no matter what stage of life you’re at.
Ayurveda has many life-enhancing benefits. Because it is a holistic way of life, Ayurveda focuses on bringing balance to your physical, mental and spiritual health as you move through the seasons, the different stages of your life, and the changing times of day.
A key aspect of Ayurveda is decoding and then living in harmony with ones constitution/dosha. Dosha (physical/emotional blueprint) and everything in the Universe is made up of a combination of the five elemental forces of space, air, fire, water and earth. You may have heard of people being described as flighty, grounded or fiery for instance, which is instinctively describing their energetic/elemental blueprint. There are three main dosha and each is made from a combination of the elements; these being Vata (air/either), Pitta (fire/water) and Kapha (water/earth).
As humans, we need all there energies to produce, metabolise and maintain health. Psychologically, we need the creation of new ideas (vata), the ability to articulate them (pitta) and then the resolve to realise them (kapha). That said most of us will have a main, sub and opposing dosha and a greater understanding of where you fall, will help liberate us from general disease, which is the very aim of Ayurveda.

AYURVEDIC APPROACHES TO ANTENATAL CARE

Ayurvedic Approaches ( Garbhini paricharya) to Antenatal care (ANC)
Child birth is the happiest moment for the mother as she is taking care for it since nine month. Care during those nine months prefers the term Antenatal care.
Ayurvedic Antenatal Care begins with a month by month description of developments during pregnancy. It then covers the topics of apana vata, nutrition, the daily routine, yoga asana, meditation, happiness, challenges, herbs as well as herbal medicines, treatments, classical month by month regimens, herbal ghee and preparing for the baby.
Ayurveda provides significant assistance to women during pregnancy. Mothers-to-be undergo many changes to their physical and emotional being during their 9 months of pregnancy as they create and support a new life.
Ayurveda provides nutritional advice as well as practices such as meditation, the daily routine, yoga asanas, and considerations for happiness. Herbal Medicines can be used to assist the pregnant mother to feel her optimum as well as overcome challenges.
CHARAKA SAMHITA SAYS:
“Evam kurvati hi arogya – bala – varna – samvahana – sampadam upetam jnatinam shrestam apatyam jayanti “
If a pregnant woman is taken care as advised she will give birth to a child who does not have any diseases – a healthy, physically strong, radiant and well nourished Baby. He will be superior to all in the race.
1. Pregnant women must be happy, be bathed daily adorning clean clothes, remain pious, sober and worship God; should not remain erect, flexed, hold heavy weights for long and avoid excessive, laughter, shaking and trauma.
2. A woman from the very first day of pregnancy must remain happy, clean, partake in auspicious acts, be devoted to the Lord, not exposing herself to unclean, mean or abnormal sights, sounds, eat foods that are stale, dry or too moist and not remain alone in her home. She should avoid overexertion, penetrating massage, sitting on hard surfaces or places that are too high and should consume foods that are nourishing for her body and mind especially tastes which are sweet and unctuous processed with recommended herbs.
3. The pregnant woman should be protected just like a vessel filled with oil to the brim is protected, without any shaking.
4. The woman, who has conceived should be looked after affectionately by her husband and attendants, supplied with things that she likes and which are good for her health, nourished with more butter, ghee and milk, always. A monthly dietetic regimen is advocated in Ayurveda. Milk and milk derivatives (butter and ghee) are used along with honey. These fulfill the required nutrition to the growing fetes. Ayurveda considers that Milk is the total food , ghee has the virtues to help in the formation of tissues especially the nervous tissue and butter in addition to the lipid requirement supplies adequate amount of vitamin A' too.
5. Ayurvedic dietetics and energetics denote five active principles of all substances: rasa, guna, virya, vipak and prabhava. Further, there are six tastes: sweet, sour, salty, pungent, bitter and astringent. Charaka says that the proper utilisation of these tastes maintain the body while improper uses increase the doshas.
6. Sattvic food is advised as it will create more settled state of mind necessary for the healthy pregnancy and good mental and psychological development of the fetus.
7. Good nutrition during pregnancy can help to keeping mother and baby healthy such as certain nutrients, iron, calcium, iodine and folate. Ayurvedic theories recommend easily digestible and pure foods that provide nourishment to the tissues of the fetus and the mother.
The three pillars of health from an Ayurvedic perspective are food, sleep and expense of energy. When we manage these three pillars, health is maintained in the body. During pregnancy, we pay special attention to these pillars to assure the health of the mother, and to optimize the health of the growing unborn baby within.
Self-care during pregnancy is the first gift that the mother can give to her child.
I can support these pillars, the health of the mother and the child will be optimized from the earliest moment and provide a strong foundation for the rest of the life...

Ayurveda Therapies
Ayurveda incorporates diet, yoga, herbs, various therapeutic body therapies, spiritual practices and correct life style to bring individuals into balance, harmony and health.
Ayurveda has categorized body doshas into three basic types; Air, Fire and Water. In Sanskrit these are Vata, Pitta and Kapha, at times translated as “wind, bile and phlegm” or “catabolic, metabolic and anabolic principles”. Disease is disharmony of Vata, Pitta and Kapha, each of which influences the physical, mental and emotional aspects of the individual. Based upon Ayurvedic Principles, disharmony or imbalances are created by improper diet, lifestyle and influences, which create toxins in our body, mind and spirit.

You will begin your Shirodhara Bliss Therapy with a warm herbal oil Body Therapy to your scalp, face, neck, hands and feet. Next we begin the Shirodhara, a unique and profound Ayurvedic treatment that especially acts to heal and address the psychological and spiritual aspects of a person.
Shirodhara involves the practitioner pouring a stream of warm, herbal oil over the third eye center and forehead. It is this steady, rhythmic pouring of oil that induces a deeply relaxing and blissful state of consciousness called ‘Turiya’ ~ the state of awareness that is neither fully conscious nor deep sleep. While in this Turiya state, we are able to witness and/or release impressions in our conscious and subconscious mind.
Shirodhara : Ayurvedic Third Eye Oil Flow Therapy
Shirodhara is one of the most unique therapies available for reducing stress and enhancing cellular intelligence and immunity. It pacifies and balances the subtle aspects of all the doshas, nourishes the nervous system, promotes relaxation and tranquility, and improves mental clarity and comprehension. It has very profound effects on the consciousness and has often been called third eye or bliss therapy.
Shirodhara is our signature treatment. A series of this therapy can help improve certain neurological and mental imbalances. Before pouring warm oil on your third eye (or forehead), the therapist will massage your feet, belly, and head with warm oil to relax your body and mind.
The brow and third eye center are associated with the fundamental endocrine glands (pituitary, pineal & hypothalamus), which regulate all hormonal secretions. These hormonal secretions are responsible not only for the autonomic responses which control digestion, breath, elimination, etc., but are also responsible for our moods and emotional states. Shirodhara is meant to establish a state of parasympathetic repose, an ego-less state, during which the innate intelligence of our body is revealed. You will emerge from your Shirodhara Bliss Therapy feeling so refreshed, as if you have just completed a long, deep and blissful meditation.
Shirodhara is mostly followed by Abhyanga and Steam Therapy during Panchakarma.

Oil Pulling
The Ayurvedic text Charaka Samhita has reference to Kavala gandusha or Kavala graha as produces in oil pulling therapy practiced in ancient India. Kavala refers to that which is related to the oral cavity and gandusha is a gargle. Kavala graha is a medicine that can be held in the oral cavity. In this case.
The technique known as oil pulling or oil swishing assists in the process of pulling out oral toxins. Just as the skin excretes body waste and toxins, the tongue eliminates toxins and harmful microbes from the body.
All oils are lipid-based and so is the exterior cell membranes, including single-celled microorganisms that inhabit the mouth. When these microbes come in contact with the oil, their cell membranes adhere to the oil, which helps to detach them from the teeth and gums. This includes supporting the removal of plaque and odor causing-bacteria. Decreasing the bad bacteria in the mouth help maintain a good balance of microbes in the mouth.
Oil by nature is heavy and warm. These qualities soothe and nourish the tissues. By swishing the oil all around in the mouth, in and out of the teeth, it contacts all the tissues through out the oral cavity, introducing them to it's nourishing qualities, thus providing nutrition and strength to the tissues of the mouth.
Ayurvedic science maps the tongue with organ-locations.
Different sections of the tongue are connected to the kidneys, lungs, spleens, liver, heart, pancreas, small intestines, stomach, colon, and spine. Oil pulling eliminates toxins from the whole body through the tongue.
I do my oil pulling after I have scraped my tongue and while I am preparing coffee for my partner before he goes to work. This is about 15-20 minutes. Then I spit out the oil, swish warm water around my mouth, brush my teeth and then drink a cup of warm water. And voila, I am ready to begin my day.
Enjoy Marma Therapy
There are 117 primary marma points that are classified according to location, elemental associations, doshas, dhatu, mala, corresponding organs, srotamsi and degrees of vitality. The vitality of marma is intimately related to ojas, tejas and prana.
Sushruta, an expert surgeon of Ayurveda, describes mamas according to the six major parts of the body: the four extremities, trunk, head and neck. He also divides the points in reference to the five Ayurvedic principals of the body's physical structures: mamsa (muscles), sira (veins), snayu (ligaments), asthi (bone) and sandhi (joints).
A marma is a vital energy or accupressure point located on the surface of the body (similar to acupoints in traditional Chinese medicine). Marma chikitsa (marma therapy) dates back to the sixth century BCE and was developed for the purposes of healing and interestingly often used in Indian martial arts practices both for recovery from injury and to inflict harm on one’s opponent! Marma chikitsa is often used in Ayurvedic approaches to health as a compliment to other treatments.
Marma points are said to have a wide range of functions that affect mind, body and spirit. They can serve as diagnostic indicators to underlying health conditions, act in a preventative capacity, can relieve pain, facilitate detoxifiction and enhance self awareness and emotional calm.
Marma therapy, which involves gentle pressure and massage of the energy points, is not typically used in isolation as a treatment but can be very beneficial alongside other treatments offered at Paths to Peace. You can enjoy a treatment as part of your stress management programme, yoga therapy or as part of deep relaxation.
Marma points are said to have a wide range of functions that affect mind, body and spirit. They can serve as diagnostic indicators to underlying health conditions, act in a preventative capacity, can relieve pain, facilitate detoxifiction and enhance self awareness and emotional calm.
Marma points – our physical and energetic centres – are stimulated, intensifying the rejuvenating process and improving collagen and protein production. To complete the treatment a soothing and replenishing serum, specifically formulated for your skincare needs, is applied.
As it relates to the doshas, marma chikitsa can either be used to stimulate or pacify a dosha. It can promote a healthy response of the dosha and is used in balancing prakruti and vikruti and supporting to restore it to its natural state. Often these points are used as a mechanism of pain relief. Pain is generated by an impeded flow of prana resulting from tension and stagnation in the body. Marma chikitsa alleviates this pain by stimulating the flow of prana to the area, pacifying the accumulated dosha.

An Ayurvedic facial is a deeply relaxing, soothing and transformational experience...one of the most powerful treatments in Ayurvedic therapy. In Ayurveda, there are seven tissues or systems we treat known as the “dhatus.” The first of the seven is called the “rasa dhatu,” or the lymph of the body. The second is the blood, or the “rakta dhatu”.
Your circulatory system is like the faucets in your house. Your lymph system is like the drains. If the drains are clogged, they will back up into the blood, causing a disorder. By treating the lymph system through the skin, we are essentially preventing an imbalance from arising in the blood stream. When that imbalance is in the blood stream, it is monitored by Western medicine and known as a pathology.
An Ayurvedic Facial is unique because it stimulates lymphatic drainage from the skin into the circulatory system of the body. If the lymph is sluggish, then the skin, which is drained by the lymph, will dry out, get wrinkled, develop acne, blackheads or whiteheads, be unable to tolerate sun or weather, and basically become non-functional as an organ.
The skin is the fourth most important exit ramp for impurities to be excreted out of the body following the liver, kidneys and colon. If the skin gets dry and toxic from the environment and the lymph becomes congested, the skin will be rendered non-functional. These impurities slotted for lymph and skin removal will be shunted into the muscles, joints and fat cells, creating problems there, and further age the texture of the skin.
If your lymphatic system is chronically congested, you may notice some of the following symptoms: wrinkles, dry skin, new skin tags or moles, eczema, rashes, itching skin, and edema or holding more fluids, sometimes noticed as rings feeling tight on your fingers. Additionally, allergies, low thyroid, compromised immunity, headaches, sore throats, fatigue, sore feet in the morning or muscle or joint pain than can move around the body are all common indicators of a sluggish lymphatic system.
We are using completely natural, chemical-free and preservative-free herbs to detoxify the deep tissues of the skin, trigger a balanced lymphatic flow, and restore the life, vigor and function of the skin. This therapy, which also treats the hands, feet, upper back and neck is designed to restore optimal function to the lymph and skin, remove stress, while bringing a deep sense of relaxation and calm to the whole body.
THERAPEUTIC BODY TREATMENT
These body therapies are each used to help the health and well-being of an individual. This treatment involves the manual manipulation of muscles, tissue, ligaments, and tendons in order to relieve the tension and/or pain located on a particular region of the body. Usually, patients who suffer from mental-emotional stress, those who need to rehabilitate muscles, reduce pain, or just relax the body will seek out the benefits of this therapy.

Ayurveda recommends a program of internal cleansing at every change of seasons to clear the channels of the body of toxins/ama that may have built up over the previous season. The practice of cleansing is considered a vital part of an Ayurvedic lifestyle. It provides an important means of clearing accumulated waste and toxicity from the mind and the tissues, encouraging optimal health.
Our bodies are being asked to process a seemingly endless barrage of harmful inputs such as environmental toxins, processed foods, unresolved emotions, and psychological stress. Over time, these stressors can cause toxicity to build up in the system, deposit in the tissues, and compromise our health. A periodic cleanse helps to clear these accumulations from the body.
I believe a detox is not only about getting the bad stuff out, it is about rebuilding your body, your cells and your youth, which requires getting the good stuff in.
This Ayurveda Detox Programme is designed to create healthy vibrant cells, transforming the way you feel, inside and out.
Just some of the benefits you will feel include:
1. A slimmer, lighter body and radiant skin.
2. Renewed energy, mental clarity and improved focus.
3. A wellbeing practice to carry on supporting you in day to day life.
4. A feeling of presence, contentment and vibrancy.
5. A strong, renewed immune system.
The air we breathe, the water we drink, and the food we eat, are filled with chemicals and pesticides that can overload the liver and the entire immune system. Studies show that these toxins have been associated with hormone disruption, immune system suppression, reproductive disorders, several types of cancer and other disorders such as allergies.
Ama comes from many sources: your body, food, bacteria, and the environment. Cells in your body continuously produce waste that must be filtered and drained. When your lymphatic system is congested or your circulation poor, the natural processes of elimination may be compromised.
Below is a detailed list of how you can tell if you have excess ama in the body.
Heavy feeling
Unclear thinking
Dull eyes
Aches and pains
Poor circulations
Joint pain and inflammation
Bloating and or gas
Skin blemishes
Fever
Lack of energy
Stickiness of stools
Phlegm and urine
Foul smells in breath
Sweat
Lack of appetite or taste
Indigestion after eating
Sticky or sweet taste in the mouth.
Tongue with thick, dirty and greasy coating along with a swollen body.
High blood sugar levels
Some forms of depression
Rheumatoid
Candida in the gut and uterus, blood urea, gout
Kidney stones as a sign of undigested calcium and oxalates
Bacterial infection
Tumors
Panchakarma techniques reduce the amount of ama in the body substantially. It is suggested in Ayurveda to undergo Panchakarma on a regular basis, to keep the body from building up ama.

OJAS- THE VITALITY OF BABY'S DEVELOPMENT IN PREGNANCY

Ojas – The Vitality of Baby’s Development In Pregnancy:
Ancient Ayurvedic texts by Vagbhat describe–in detail–embryonic nourishment at conception and for gestation by the 5 elements. They describe the seat of the soul as a sixth tissue (the nervous system), which is the next to last tissue in the sequence of tissue nutrition in the body. The quality of mind and connectedness to this life are dependent upon the quality of the nervous tissue. Vagbhat explains that ojas – the finest product of maternal and paternal digestion and contained in the reproductive seed material — is the essence of the embryo and fetus, and the first component for baby’s tissue formation, and Ayurvedic teachers explain that stem cells are nourished by ojas.
The Three Vital Essences: Ojas, tejas, and prana
Ojas, tejas, and prana, the subtler, energetic forms or counterparts of the three fundamental ayurvedic principles or doshas (vāta, pitta and kapha) , maintain the development of immature dathu (tissue) into mature dathu. Prana divides kalala (zygote), tejas maintains its integrity, and ojas maintains its immunity.
Depleted ojas may manifest as chromosomal defects in the fetus and can cause congenital abnormalities .
During pregnancy, ojas is unstable as it moves between the mother and fetus and this is why it is especially important to develop it.
It is believed that healthy Ojas, brings about love and compassion in both mother and fetus. “Ojas, as a subtle material substance and essence of the tissues, requires the material support of a right diet.
Mother and child care has been described in great detail in Ayurveda. All basic principles of Ayurveda need to be applied to deal with the problems of maternal and foetal mortality. Rules of Ahara (diet), Vihara (lifestyle), Sadavrutta (moral conduct), along with varied therapies are used in tackling the various problems. There is need to take an in depth view at causes. Major changes in lifestyle may be required. Uses of various Ayurvedic formulations like various ghrtas and tailas (ghees and oils) have given wonderful results. Ayurveda aims at producing “Supraja” or healthy progeny. Ayurveda provides answers to some of the most worrying problems facing in today's modern world.
OJAS IS OUR SUBTLE ‘ESSENCE’ RESPONSIBLE FOR VITALITY, HEALTH, RADIANCE, ENERGY LEVELS, STRENGTH, IMMUNITY IN PARTICULAR, VIGOUR, LONGEVITY OF LIFE AND OVERALL MENTAL, EMOTIONAL AND PHYSICAL WELLBEING.
