PREGNANCY A MYSTIC EXPERIENCE

The Mystic (Growing) Inside You
Promoting the Health of Mother and Baby During Pregnancy : Ayurvedic Insight
Your pregnancy, make a conscious effort to be aware of your inner mystic, because you have your own inner mystic within you, but you also have this little developing mystic within your body.
FACT: Our constitution or dosha is formed in utero while in our mother’s womb! Based on her diet, emotional, mental and physical environments, as well as other factors, our personalities and physical and behavioral characteristics are determined. Through this understanding, one can gain many insights as to one’s strengths and weakness, as well as how one can realign to enhance our positive aspects inherit within.
Ayurveda provides significant assistance to women during pregnancy and it is a complementary addition to the care provided by. Mothers-to-be undergo many changes to their physical and emotional being during their 9 months of pregnancy as they create and support a new life.
Ayurveda provides nutritional advice as well as practices such as meditation, the daily routine, yoga asanas, and considerations for happiness. Herbal Medicines can be used to assist the pregnant mother to feel her optimum as well as overcome challenges.
Ancient Ayurvedic texts by Vagbhat describe–in detail–embryonic nourishment at conception and for gestation by the 5 elements. They describe the seat of the soul as a sixth tissue (the nervous system), which is the next to last tissue in the sequence of tissue nutrition in the body. The quality of mind and connectedness to this life are dependent upon the quality of the nervous tissue. Vagbhat explains that ojas – the finest product of maternal and paternal digestion and contained in the reproductive seed material — is the essence of the embryo and fetus, and the first component for baby’s tissue formation, and Ayurveda can explain how that stem cells are nourished by ojas.
Nourishing mama’s ojas throughout pregnancy (and postpartum) is a central topic in Ayurveda. The many refinements on healthy digestion and transformation of food that is spelled out in Ayurveda are about creating good quality ojas — because ojas is the finest product of digestion. It is the foundation of good health.
Depleted ojas may manifest as chromosomal defects in the fetus and can cause congenital abnormalities . If the ojas of the baby is weak, the child may be born with a defect. During pregnancy, ojas is unstable as it moves between the mother and fetus and this is why it is especially important to develop it.
It is believed that healthy Ojas, brings about love and compassion in both mother and fetus. Ojas, as a subtle material substance and essence of the tissues, requires the material support of a right diet.
Ojas can be strengthened by:
• eating nourishing foods like
• spendig time in nature
• good sleep
• limited electronic stimulation
• practicing meditation, breathing exercises (pranayama), chanting, yoga.
• taking rejuvenating herbs like:
• Ghee can help to stabilize the Ojas in the fetus and to avoid chromosomal defects
When a mother enters pregnancy with a healthy diet and lifestyle, making the necessary changes to enhance ojas is straight-forward — and she can easily make proactive choices that will help build the best quality body for baby. But when she has pitta or kapha ama (accumulated wastes from incomplete digestion or toxicities in the body), or excessive rajas or tamas in the mind (anger, depression, and so on) these conditions can tend to vibrate at odds with gestational priorities, and undermine the baby’s development.
ojas is our subtle essence responsible for vitality, health, radiance, energy levels, strength, immunity in particular, vigour, longevity of life and overall mental, emotional and physical wellbeing...

HOW ARE YOU FEELING TODAY?

Do you have a rash? Are you in a foul mood? Is your lower back throbbing, or are you peeing more frequently? Is your stomach all bloated or have you been running hotter than normal? Are you having an autoimmune flair-up or just in a general life funk and don’t know what the heck to do with your dear self?
Have you lived long enough to recognize that your mind and body tend to act in patterns, and that when one thing enters your mind/body, it will lead to another thing to take place in your body/mind?
Vikruti is the term in Ayurveda used to acknowledge the fact, that after you are born, the exterior forces of life are going to alter you. You come out of the perfection and safety of the womb, and minute by minute, start getting exposed to all sorts of real life stuff that tries to spin you around, until you cannot remember yourself or who you were meant to be.
Since we live with toxins, bad partners, a consumer driven economy, traumatic situations, genetically modified foods, chronic illness, rogue political leaders, societal pressures, familial expectations, and global pollution (among other things), as our clock ticks here on planet earth, we are exposed to a plethora of things and experiences that throw us off balance from our original Essence. The most important thing to remember...you are not your vikruti Or, in layman terms, you are not your imbalances. You are not your hot flashes, your eczema patch, your cancer diagnosis, your pessimism, your blemish, your acid reflux, your depression, your anxiety, or your high blood pressure. These things are just happening to you because of outside forces and the ways you have had to navigate them.
However, they are not you. Your vikruti is changeable, pliable, and impressionable. Unlike your Prakruti, which can never change, your vikruti can be altered through diet, lifestyle changes, spiritual conquests, and daily practices. In all, vikruti is the face we see in the mirror that scares us to death. It’s that face that looks tired, beaten down, mistreated, worn out, and broken that is full of imbalances, ailments, and disturbances. We all share that face, but it’s not us.
The way you are at this present moment in time. vikruti is the way your body & mind is currently expressing the three doshas and 20 gunas. It is not who you truly are. However it's how you are experiencing yourself at this moment in time.
Integrating Ayurveda into your life can be immensely beneficial to your overall sense of wellness, but what are some specific issues it can help with? Let’s explore distinct areas in which Ayurveda can improve your health.
We would like to offer you a warm-hearted welcome as you begin to explore the world of Ayurveda. We hope that you find it as inspiring as we do and that we can support and serve you in your process of discovery.

And, yes, you can discover your Ayurvedic Dosha
In Ayurveda, the dosha is not who you are, but rather just the beginning of three paths that all lead to a better understanding of yourself. We each are all three doshas, however the quantity and quality of each dosha is different and distinct in each and every one of us. And that’s all a Dosha is-not a definition, but rather just a little classification that directs you to a whole new level of self-understanding. The Doshas are just doors really, opening up to worlds and worlds of different human expressions of the five elements. And that really is the basis of the Doshas. Which of the five elements, best describes your body and mind? The Doshas are just generalized ways of thinking about the impact of the elements on your being and an assessment of which elements and energies are most prominent in your unique constitution. The Doshas are just a lens, but there is sooo much to discover and learn about each one, and no time to limit yourself to just one thing. Take the quizzes, find your dosha, and just use it as a starting point to your self-discovery. The dosha will help you understand so much, so long as you do not limit yourself to only being defined by it.

SHIRODHARA FOR WOMEN'S REPRODUCTIVE CYCLE

An Ayurvedic Approach to a Healthy Cycle
Manage Doshic Differences in Menstruation With Shirodhara.
There are different stages throughout the month that relate to a woman’s natural shift in hormones, known as rutukala, rutavateta kala, and rajahkala
The way in which each woman may experience the menstrual cycle is dependent upon the doshic constitution she is overtly displaying at the time.
Balancing
Vata Menstrual Flow
Pitta Menstrual Flow
Kapha Menstrual Flow
The menstrual cycle is effectively a monthly cleanse and is treated as such in the Ayurvedic tradition. Our goal, then, is to support the process of cleansing. As with any other cleanse, importance is placed on rest and rejuvenation and kindling agni. For this reason, for centuries, women in India have been given the opportunity to be relieved from their daily duties and go in seclusion so that their body may fully cleanse both on the physical and mental level. The menstrual cycle is a gift that is unique to the female gender.
So many women suffer from menstrual imbalances, leaning on a limited number of tools. And given that it is such a huge part of our life, coming monthly, it can be frustrating, burdensome, and even debilitating. Not only does Ayurveda provide alternative solutions that really work at the root level, but it also gives the opportunity to reshift our chemistry before more difficult conditions arise by being able to use our menstrual cycle as barometer of what lies within us. Ayurveda also blesses us with the outlook that this is ultimately a cleanse. And by viewing it as such, we can work with our body towards greater health, instead of running against its natural work.
We hope that we have equipped you with a few more tools like Shirodhara to help you on your way towards balance and health. The female body is truly unique and beautiful. Use it towards great health as a roadmap, paying attention to all of the signs and subtlest shifts. You will learn more about yourself that goes beyond just the physical.
Menstruation not only cleanses and reset’s a woman’s reproductive tract, but provides insight to her overall health, and should be honored. By staying in sync, we are able to fine tune any imbalances to allow for a smoother flow. Following and understanding an importance in overall diet, stress level and relaxation will ultimately result in a greater menstruation experience.
Shirodhara also helps for PCOD in women.

AYURVEDA AND PREGNANCY

Ayurvedic insights into pregnancy
Pregnancy is a rejuvenating experience in a woman’s life according to Ayurveda, because every cell in a woman’s body can be transformed.
Every thought, action, and decision a pregnant mother makes is directly correlated to the health, vitality, and essentially, the life potential of the child. She must be mindful that every element, food article, aroma, sight, and sound entering or surrounding her body impacts the fetus, directing the dependent soul to a greater state or to a more weakened state of health. Holistic care relating to pregnancy becomes essential as soon as the mother and father even decide to embark on the journey of parenthood—before conception even takes place. Ayurvedic practices and principles applied to the pregnant mother and her pending child provide a sincere potential for an enriched pregnancy and birthing experience, contributing to greater mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical health of the mother, child, and father. How can the modern, western-born mother implement the ancient teachings of Ayurveda as she embarks on the journey to bring a vital new life into this world? This review of literature will offer an array of insight shedding light on how the three pillars of life, herbal treatments, five sense therapies, and spiritual practices can be incorporated and utilized throughout the pregnancy
Pregnancy is a happy and joyous time of life for many women. It can also be a challenging time of life as tbe mother's body goes through numerous changes in order to create and support the development of a new life. Ayurveda creates support for the physical, mental/emotional and spiritual bodies of the mother and her baby. Ayurveda places great emphasis on the importance of caring for the mother before during and after pregnancy. It is the woman who procreates children and propagating the human species. Dharma (righteousness), artha (wealth), lakshmi (auspiciousness), and loka (the entire universe) are represented in every woman. The dietary regimen during pregnancy is extremely important as the growth of the baby depends upon the health and nutrition of the mother.
Grit preparations (medicated ghee) like Phala Sarpis can be taken from the first month of pregnancy. Dadimadi Ghritham improves the growth of the foetus while Kalyanaka Ghritham improves mental growth.
Prior to conception, for the duration of the pregnancy and into the breast feeding years, it is necessary that the mother follows a constitutionally specific balanced diet with the best nutritional value. The mother should have a diet of fresh, whole, organic foods, which is easily digestible. Vegetables, sweet fruits, raw milk and ghee are all highly recommended in Ayurveda. The foods should primarily be moistening and nourishing, aided by agni (digestive power) promoting herbs and spices. Rice, milk, butter and ghee along with fruits and leafy vegetables are recommended. This is useful for foetal growth, for maternal health and for further lactation.
In Charaka Samhita, it is mentioned that the pregnant women should be treated just like a pot filled with oil as the slightest oscillation of such pot can cause spilling of oil. Similarly, slight excitement to the pregnant women can initiate Garbhapata (abortion).[
It is also recommend that prior to conception and during pregnancy, the mother-to-be should keep a calm/happy mood, maintain a high degree of cleanliness and avoid excessive exercise, sexual activity, expressing anger, travel and lifting heavy objects. Eat food that is mild, easy to digest and maintain regular meal timings. It is better to avoid spicy foods, fall or trauma, weight loss programmes, negative feelings, difficult postures like balancing on one leg or squatting and exposure to unhappy or violent events.
Sattvic foods will build ojas, most importantly include milk and ghee (clarified butter). Milk should be taken warmed with cardamom or turmeric added for better digestion. Ghee is a nourishing food. It promotes digestion and is digested quickly. Sattvic food is especially good for building ojas, ghee, milk, dates, apricots, and sesame seeds are all recommended. Tamasic foods often produce ama instead of ojas.
If you’re pregnant, you need a lot of emotional support along with physical care. You shouldnot harbour any negative thoughts such as sorrow, grief, anger, fear and doubt. These hamper the mental and physical growth of the foetus. So, try to stay as happy as you can by exposingyourself to happy circumstances, people and things. And surround yourself with close friendsand relatives who support and care for you during this special time of your life.
Even during childbirth, warm drinks of milk with ghee and jiggery are often given to promote the delivery of the baby. Warm ghee is also massaged in circular motions over the mother’s belly to ease pain and facilitate a smooth delivery.
Pregnancy and child birth are nature’s gift, if proper dietary regimen and life style are not maintained during pregnancy; it may result in many complications to mother as well as to the foetus, also leading to difficulty in labour. Pregnancy is the time to consume more nutritional food substances.
After the baby is born, the baby will begin to breast feed. Since breast milk is a nourishing kapha substance, the mother should continue to take more kapha foods and avoid foods that increase pitta/vata. Cold drinks, too many raw foods, dry foods or stimulating foods should be avoided. It is suggested that the breastfeeding mother consume 1-3 tablespoons of ghee everyday for optimal breast milk production. Sweet porridges with milk, kitchadi, sweet fruits and nuts are also beneficial.
"Ayurvedic teachings promote a proper attitude of worship towards all pregnant women's. The mother needs a "clear joyful spirit" in a clean body. She should wear clean and white garments. She should avoid dreadful sights, painful or agitating sounds. Agitating emotions of the mind are dangerous (anger, fright, etc). She should not carry a heavy load or talk in a loud voice. The food she eats should be "...sweet, palatable, well-cooked, prepared with appetizing drugs and abounding in fluid substances." "The child in the womb feels pain in the same part of its body as the one in which its mother feels any."
Ayurveda strongly asserts the importance of balancing and supporting the five senses; five sense therapies and overall awareness of how the mother and fetus are effected by the external world through the five senses is an essential component to a balanced pregnancy. Not only will the mother feel more at ease and supported, but the fetus’s development prior to and following birth is significantly influenced by tastes, smells, touch, sounds, and sights the mother comes in contact with
"Where women are honoured, there the gods are pleased, but where they are not honoured, there no sacred rite is fruitful."
''The aura of a pregnant woman is one of the easiest to see, for it is particularly luminous and full of gold.'' ''The gold colour in the aura indicates that the pregnant woman is intensely connected to high spiritual beings who support and foster the embryo. Pregnancy is therefore a privileged time for spiritual growth. Itis a time to do a lot of meditation and enlightening reading, and to work at developing intuition and perception. "

More and more research and controlled trials are being conducted on mindfulness, pranayama, and mediation during pregnancy as an effectual and risk-free method of decreasing stress and anxiety. Especially considering the negative impacts of stress on the mother and infants, including reduced adaptive immunity, lower birth weights, increased chance of preterm births, and cognitive, emotional, and developmental deficiencies in infants—and considering the harmful nature of reducing stress symptoms with pharmaceuticals—simple, non-invasive approaches are becoming key to help with stress and depression in pregnant women.

Its beneficial for the abdomen, digestion, absorption as well as menstrual disorders. Depending on the nature of the disease, the treatment should be repeated a couple of times again things should not be overdone or underdone.

Increases the circulation in the region, as the herbal oil gets deeply absorbed into the skin, and both nourishes and strengthens the muscles and nerves. Pacifies one of the primary sites of Vata, relieving pain, soreness, and tension and restoring flexibility.Relieves chronic lower backaches and painful muscle spasms, stiffness, and degenerative problems
This is an effective therapeutic treatment for conditions like:
Backache (particularly the lumbar region)
Degenerative spine changes

Compressed discs

Osteoporosis
Sciatica
Hip pain
Shoulder pain

Spinal cord compression.
Sports injuries
Root chakra pain or discomfort
In the subtle body, the nadis emerge from manipura (navel) chakra and supply energy to the upper and lower extremities and back.
Sciatica
one of the easiest examples to give would be lower back pain - sciatica, generalised dull ache or feeling of pain, restriction of movement etc... This could be considered as Vata related ailments , therefore it may have elements of dryness, being rough, coarse, inflexible and there might be generalised pain - therefore the warm herbal oil helps to lubricate, strengthen, hydrate and saturate the tissues to combat excess Vata.
Sciatica is pain affecting the back, hip, thigh and outer side of the leg, caused by compression of a spinal nerve root in the lower back, often owing to degeneration of an intervertebral disc. Thus Sciatica is nerve pain from irritation of the Sciatic nerve. The pain along with tingling, numbness and weakness start in the lower back and travel downwards through the back of your thigh and outer side of the leg on the affected side.
Musculoskeletal Treatments for sciatica, lower and upper back pain, tightness, knee and elbow problems and restricted movement of the neck, back and shoulder area. This method to treat musculoskeletal disorders is unique.
Use our different Basti treatments to treat Pain at different location
What are Basti Treatments!?
They are therapies that provide nourishment to a localised point on the body, be it the lower back, between shoulder blades, knee joint or chest / heart area.
This is done by first prepping the area with a brief massage, then followed by a 'dough well' being placed upon said location to hold a large quantity of warm/ hot herbal infused oil, which is then gently massaged and once the oil has cooled, it is repeated several more times.
This deeply restorative therapy helps to remove and pacify excess doshas with a targeted area.
The nature of Vata is 'motion' and governs all movement, it is known as 'The king Dosha' as it informs and directs the flow of Pitta and Kapha. Without the information which Vata carries and sends, the other two Doshas are known as 'lame' or 'immobile'. It's said in Ayurveda that the external factors and environment influence the internal environment.

KNOW LITTLE ABOUT PITTA DOSHA
The word 'Pitta' can be seen as 'That which cooks', 'that which will metabolize' and refers to the qualities of:
Heat, warmth, sharpness clarity, oiliness, sensitivity and light.
The five sub-doshas : 1.Alochaka - located in the eyes and allows the transformation of light into images and helps us digest all visual aspects of life. 2.Bhrajaka - Resides in the skin, provides glow and lustre, digests and metabolizes external factors of heat. 3. Pachaka - The main digestive fire, responsible for digestion, assimilation of nutrients and can be considered the primary source of Pitta, as it resides in the small intestine. 4. Ranjaka - Located in the abdominal organs: Liver, Spleen, Small intestine and Stomach, Ranjaka provides colour and is also within the blood tissue. 5.Sadhaka - Seat of emotions - located in heart and the mind. Discerns right from wrong / truth from falsehood and can be seen within intellect, helps in the digestion of our beliefs and ideas.
In Ayurveda, there are treatments and methods which help nourish these sensory organs and prevent against disease / deterioration.

Irritability,Inability to concentrate, poor working memory and executive function, poor ability to memorise things, low motivation, mental confusion, wandering thoughts; inability to sustain a train of thought, disorientation, & anxiety
Have you ever suffered from a monkey mind? Where your thoughts jump around from one worry to another – keeping you in a fairly constant state of stress and agitation? Where there never seems to be a break from your internal dialogues? Shirodhara deeply relaxes the nervous system, lowers metabolism, integrates brain function and creates brain wave coherence and an alpha state.
According to Ayurveda, the center of the forehead, or Third Eye, is the seat of intuition, spirituality and healing. A steady stream of warm oil is gently poured over the forehead to help soothe and heal a frayed nervous system. According to Ayurvedic healing, the gentle but constant application stimulates healthy blood circulation to the brain and pituitary gland, which allows the nervous system to repair.
Shirodhara works primarily on the mental sheath or “manomaya kosha” as it is referred to in Ayurveda. Shirodhara helps in clearing our mental fog and nagging thoughts, and allows the nervous system to calm down.
Its other medicinal purposes include the treatment of depression, headaches, sinusitis, anxiety, allergic rhinitis, premature hair graying, hearing impairment, insomnia, skin problems including psoriasis, tinnitus, neurological disorders and vision problems. Plus it’s also used non-medically for its amazing relaxing properties.
The oils flow over the scalp and through the hair, creating a blissful sensation, which magnifies the senses, disperses negative electrical impulses that accumulate in the forehead because of stress, reverses imbalances within the body and rejuvenates the face and calms the nervous system.

Abhyanga : Ayurvedic body therapy daily in order to saturate the tissues with oil, softening the tissues down to the cellular level which opens the channels of all the cells and tissues of the body to release toxins and allow their transport to the inner channels to be eliminated. On the days that this external oelation is happening, there is also an internal oelation (also part of snehana) that takes place which involves consuming ghee so that the tissues are saturated from oil coming in from the outside of the body during the abhyanga and oil coming in from the inside through the consuming of the ghee.
One of the principle uses of abhyanga is to pacify Vata dosha (the air/ether humour in the body). Managing Vata dosha is a big part of maintaining balance in the body for everyone. Vata is the dosha which moves everything. It is not possible for one to move into imbalance without the aid of Vata dosha and keeping it in balance is a major key to health according to Ayurveda..
Interesting facts about ABHYANGA
When you do Anhyanga Herbal oil deeply penetrate into the tissues due to its low molecular weight. It is reputed to penetrate all 7 skin layers and is able to enter the capillaries in the dermis of the skin and affect the entire body. Another interesting fact is that the seven layers of skin correspond to the seven dhatus or tissues of the body: the seven dhatus are the plasma, red blood cells, muscle, fat (adipose tissue), bone, nerve tissue, and reproductive tissue. Each tissue has a specialized agni, or fire element, which serves to digest and manage other important metabolic processes pertaining to that tissue. As each layer of skin digests the oil, the metabolism of that tissue is activated and effects the functioning of the tissue metabolism throughout the body.

DO NOT PUT ANYTHING ON YOUR SKIN WITHOUT KNOWING SIDE EFFECTS
Ayurveda teaches that it is important not to put anything on the skin that you would not eat. If you put it on your skin, your skin may digest it. And, what is more the skin will take it directly to the blood supply, not to the liver for detoxification, which is what happens when substances enter the body through the digestive tract. A big concern environmentally is that of chemical exposure to the skin of various chemicals like pesticides in agriculture and other hazardous chemicals which escape into the environment and are easily absorbed through the skin. And now there is growing concern about products containing chemicals which are showing up in the body tissues: in the blood, breast milk, other tissues, after absorbing through the skin.
