CREATING HEALTHY JOINTS WITH AYURVEDA

Life without joints health is hard to imagine; our joints really are crucial to living life as we know it, and caring for them can have a huge impact on how comfortable we feel in our bodies.

Physiological functions of the body will be governed by three Doshas, that is, Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Vitiation of these Doshas leads in disease manifastation.
In Ayurveda as shleshaka kapha (a subtype of kapha- which is found in all 360 joints of the body) which links the joints to the health of meda dhatu (the adipose tissue, or fat) as well.
Sleshaka Kapha ( responsible for cushioning the joints) which keeps intact the joints and other similar structures. The ama shares many qualities with kapha dosha and therefore has an affinity with shleshaka kapha, that is primarily responsible for cushioning the joints. In the absence of proper nourishment, lubrication, and cushioning in the joints, the bones themselves can become rough, exposed, damaged, or deformed. Shleshaka Kapha is responsible for lubrication in all of the small and large joints of the human body. Movement in all joints would be impossible without Shleshaka Kapha, which lubricates all of joints in human body. Shleshaka Kapha is not only helps lubricate the joints but also helps as a shock absorber. Without proper action of this Kapha the whole framework of the body would not be possible. It’s located all over the body. When this subdosha is out of balance or increased, your joints could become swollen and irritated, whereas if it’s weakened, your joints might become dry and may crackle and pop. Without Shleshaka Kapha, there would be no connection between bones and movement would be impossible. Kapha is responsible for maintaining tissues, body fluids, lubrication, flexibility and firmness in the body, which are important for the proper functioning of the joints. Shleshaka Kapha a slippery synovial fluid, which lubricates the ends of the bone surfaces and also accommodates a tough, protective covering into which the ligaments and tendons can insert themselves.
All of the supportive tissues, bones, ligaments, tendons, and connective tissue, are kapha dosha, while the joint cavity (provides a container for synovial fluid) or space where the bones meet is an element ruled by vata dosha. Most commonly affected joints due to vitiated Vata dosha are knees, ankles, elbows, wrists, fingers, and toes and common symptoms of Vata imbalance in joints are dryness, popping and cracking, and muscle tics and spasms.. The dryness of Vata can deplete the lubricating qualities of kapha and joint surfaces can become rough and brittle
Impaired agni (undigested food) leads to the formation of ama—a toxic, sticky substance immensely disruptive to the physiology. Then vata, which is the most mobile and active of the three doshas carries the ama to the colon, the seat (home) of vata in the body. If agni in the bone and joint tissues is at all compromised, the ama can enter those tissues and create all kinds of disturbances—from inflammation and swelling to deterioration of the joint tissue itself. In a condition of amavata, ama is carried by vitiated vata into general circulation throughout the body, it interacts with the kapha in the joint spaces, the Shleshaka Kapha (synovial fluid) loses its highly viscous quality and changes into a sticky toxic substance. Which start to begin to block vital channels throughout the body that carry nutrients to the tissues, which results in symptoms of excess heat, redness, pain, stiffness, swelling and acute inflammation. If this acute inflammation left untreated, can cause damage or injury to the joint and bone tissue resulting in a chronic condition, which can lead to degenerative disease, such as rheumatoid arthritis.
For supporting the joints on a more general level is a matter of clearing any accumulated ama, moving it back to the GI tract, and from there, eliminating it from the body. We also want to reduce inflammation, support proper circulation, and balance agni in the tissues. At the same time, kindling agni will ensure that neither excess dosha nor ama are able to find their way back into the joints in the future. Also, the excess vata also compromises agni (the metabolic fire), which can initiate the formation of ama (toxins) in the GI tract. Vata involves in the diseases of the neurological, musculoskeletal, psychosomatic, and gastrointestinal system disorders.
In Ayurveda, therapies like abhyanga, swedana, snehapana, nasya karma, vasti karma, and shamana Aushadhi are mentioned to combat the Vata vyadhi. Nasya karma is one of the therapeutic procedures of the Panchakarma Treatment, wherein the drug is administered through the nasal route, which not only alleviates the vitiated doshas, but also causes complete eradication of the vitiated dosha and the disease. As the procedure of nasya itself involves massaging and fomenting over the marmas existing on the face and head, this also helps in the alleviation of marmaksobha and Vatashamana. Abhyanga reduces the provoked Vata, which is responsible for the decay in the Dhatus and for manifestation of features like pain, stiffness, and crackes, stimulates blood circulation and assists the lymphatic system, improving the elimination of waste throughout the body.
Matrabasti : It nourishes the body, promotes the strength, and cures Vata-related diseases. Basti, through its action on Vata and Agni, promotes the formation of Dhatus. The colon is considered as main seat of Vata, and Vata-alleviating substances administered through the rectocolonic route in Matrabasti are able to have their optimum effect on the seat of Vata.
A periodic cleanse of your body is a way to support the joints because it so specifically kindles agni and clears impurities from the system. As the deeper the cleanse, the deeper the impact on specific tissues like the joints.
Ayurveda offers simple guidelines, herbal remedies & therapies for supporting healthy function of the joints. Ayurvedic perspective can support the health of joints even further by incorporating important diet and lifestyle principles.

AYURVEDA AND HYPERTENSION

At first, it is essential to understand the physiological aspects of blood pressure in Ayurveda which is fundamentally based on the theory of Tridosha. This tridosha concept is the starting point for all diagnosis and treatment. The Ayurvedic dosha is read and interpreted like a blueprint outlining the basis of wellness as well as innate tendencies built into the overall individual system.

In Ayurveda, systemic arterial hypertension can be understood on the basis of involvement of vitiated Doshas where there is the involvement of Vata and Pitta predominant Tridosha, which hampers the flow of these Doshas in respective Srotas (micro-channels).
Ayurveda healing system uses the tridosha concept as its foundation for the prevention of illness and as a unique personalized medical treatment for each patient.
Ayurveda’s tridosha theory consists of principles of metabolism (pitta), principles of structure (kapha), and principles of motion (vata).
Vata Dosha
1. Prana Vayu : Prana Vayu controls the blood pressure by controlling of Vyana Vayu. So the pathology of Prana Vayu can be cause of abnormality of heart as well as vessels and developing hypertension.
2. Vyana Vata : With the help of Vyan Vata, heart will be contracts and propels blood continuously to all over body. So, it is proves that the involvement of Vyana Vata in regulation of blood pressure.
3. Samana Vayu: Samana Vayu has an important role in the blood circulation and blood pressure.
4. Apana Vayu: Apana vayu also plays important role in regulation of normal blood pressure.
Pitta Dosha
Variations in the basal metabolic rate can be understood as a result of the action of Agni or Pitta, more precisely the Pachak pitta.
KAPHA DOSH
Avlambak Kapha
Located in Heart. The normal rhythmicity, conductivity, excitability, contractility, tone and refractory period of cardiac muscle can be correlated with Avalambana karma of Heart. Therefore it can be said that Avalamabk kapha has some role on regulation of blood pressure.
When Vata predominates, an increase in blood pressure will be followed by stress, worry, strain, anxiety or insomnia. It frequently associated with nervous system disorders. Anxiety, worry, stress, and strain, are usually the main factors, therefore, treat the psychological conditions.
Pitta Dosha: When Pitta predominates, anger, nose bleed, Irritability and headaches are usually the main factors which increase high blood pressure.
Kapha Dosha: When Kapha is prominent, there may be dull headache, edema, and lethargy with obesity. Blood pressure remains continually high.
Function of the heart can be attributed to the functioning of the Vata Dosha, in particular the Vyana Vata as it is seated in the heart and is responsible for blood circulation. Charaka clearly describes that Vyana Vata, a component of Vata Dosha constantly forces the blood out of the heart and distributes it. Thus it can be said that the systolic BP attained during contraction of the heart is controlled by Vata (Vyana Vata). It is the Prana Vata situated in the Moordha (Brain) [Ashtanga Hridaya, Sutra Sthana, 12/4] that controls the heart and does Dhamani Dharana (arterial perpetuation) and thus heart rate is controlled by Prana Vata. So Vyana Vata and Prana Vata denote the nervous control of circulation because Vata, in general, denotes all neural mechanisms. Means regulation of Blood pressure can be understood by functions of Prana Vata, Vyana Vata, Sadhaka Pitta, Avalambaka Kapha, Rasa and Rakta Dhatu which are situated in Heart. The vitiation of Vata, Pitta and Kapha (Premordial factors), asthi meda etc. affects blood pressure Kapha vitiation (avalambak kapha) increases cardiac strength but due to sluggishness of kapha, it decreases the kapha and on other hand Pitta(sadhak pitta) and Vata (vyana vata) vitiation increases blood pressure.
Improper & modern sedentary lifestyle and food habits, psychological stress factors like excess worry, daily stress levels, fear, anxiety, environmental factors such as pollution-pesticides -chemicals and anger provokes and vitiates all the three Doshas to trigger the pathogenesis of hypertension. Over time, dosha imbalance can result from improper diet, poor digestion, daily stress levels, and environmental factors such as pollution, pesticides, and chemicals.
According to Ayurveda the human physiology depends on the functional dynamic state of dosha, dhatu, mala and agni. Tridosha are the biological entities which are responsible for all bodily functions and it's regulations. Triodosha are derived from panchmahabhuta and functionally tuned with the external environmental changes. Ayurveda has mentioned a lot about the rhythmic variation as diurnal and seasonal in function state of tridosha, agni, immunity and diseases propensity with respect of age, day and night and season. Thus all the chronological changes in environment effect the state of dosha, agni and produce rhythmic changes in human biology also. Ayurveda has also provided the measures to balance the dosha aggravated due to seasonal influences due to seasonal influences under the description of Dincharya and Ritucharya.
Hence to get the perfect management of hypertension without any side effects is a need of present era. In Ayurveda equilibrium of Doshas, Dhatus, Malas and Agni are considered as healthy state of an individual.
One or more of the following possibilities should be considered according to Ayurveda.
* Pathophysiological changes in the form of vitiation of Dosha(Vata, Pitta and Kapha), Dhatu and Mala Dushti.
* Psychological changes i.e. disturbances at the level of Mana (Manovaha Strotas Vikara).
* Structural changes as complications of long term hypertension on various organs like heart, blood vessels, kidney etc.
An individual’s basic constitution plays a key role in predisposition and the prognosis of diseases, as well as treatments and recommended lifestyle.

HOW THREE DOSHAS - VATA, PITTA, KAPHA ( BODILY HUMOURS) RULE YOUR BODY.

The objective of Ayurveda is to protect health of the body and to alleviate disorders in the diseased.
According to Ayurveda a person's health depends on the balance of the three Doshas.
Vata, Pitta and kappa are three name of tridosha -Vata(air),Pitta(bile)and Kapha(Phlegm) means more than literal.Doshas are basically three different forms of energy, that govern our entire physical structure and function.
Seat for Vata is below heart and navel or umbilicus. The centre for bile is located between heart and navel. Seat for phlegm is situated in the chest above heart and naval. Agni is intensified or loses its intensity if the definite proportion is upset.
Means chest is the seat for Kapha, the upper part of the abdomen is the seat for Pitta, the lower abdomen is the seat of Vata.
The whole human activities are controlled by these principles or important forces. The physical and mental functions are performed by Vata. Pitta does all metabolic activities. Kapha maintains equilibrium in the human system.
Movement and feeling are the chief functions of Vayu or Vata. The functions of the nervous system are the functions of Vata. Vata is the force which gives all kinds of movements or the dynamic activity and sensation to each and every part of the body inside and outside.
Vata causes muscular activity. It regulates the functions of the mind and the will, feeling and understanding. It contributes ejective forces. It invigorates and vitalises all the senses. It causes cohesion of the different systems. It builds up cells to fill up a breach. It sustains the body. It contributes energy. It causes inspiration and expiration. It causes bodily and mental movement. Which is also the source of all inspiration, energy, voluntary movement, speech, circulation of blood and internal purification of the system.
Vata is the most important of the three Doshas as it performs the most useful functions. It is the first of the three primal constituents of the living body. It upholds the constituents of the body, such as blood, flesh, marrow, fat, etc. Mind is checked from all undesirable objects. All the parts of the body are pierced by Vata. The foetus in the womb is affected by Vata. Vata is that secretion of the alimentary canal which converts food into assimilable materials. The five kinds of Vata are (1) Prana Vata
Location: Brain, head and moves downwards to the chest and throat (heart and respiratory organs), (2) Vyana Vata,
Location: Heart - moves all over the body with great speed. Skin, nervous system and circulatory system, (3) Udana Vata,
Location: Chest and moves into nose, umbilicus and throat. (4) Samana Vata , Location: Stomach, intestines. Moves in the kostha (alimentary tract and abdominal viscera), (5)Apana Vata, Location: Colon/large intestine, bladder, genitals and thighs. Navel, pelvis, groin, rectum.
Pitta is the source of all internal heat including digestion, hunger, thirst, intelligence, imagination, understanding, memory, glow in the complexion, function of sight, etc. It contributes courage, softness of the body. Pitta is that secretion which turns all fatty matter into fatty acids. The chief function of Pitta is production of heat. Pitta is that force which as the digestive fire, breaks down the particles of foodstuffs in the form of Rasadhatu. The metabolic activities are carried on by Pitta. The five kinds of Pitta are (1) Pachaka Pitta {The entire digestive process is governed by it..Location : Interior of pakvasaya (large intestines) and amasaya (stomach & small intestine)}, (2) Ranjana Pitta ( Locarion : Amasaya (stomach). Liver, spleen, duodenum, red blood cells), (3) Sadhaka Pitta (Location: Heart),(4) Alochaka Pittan (Location: Eyes) and (5)Bhrajaka Pitta (Location: Skin).
Kapha is responsible for the smoothness of body, general strength, potency, forbearance, steadiness. Kapha is that force which unites, supports and lubricates all the parts of the body, especially the moving parts of the body. The chief function of Kapha is lubrication. The Kapha represents the body-water and watery materials of the body. The stamina of the body depends upon the Kapha. Kapha converts the starch into sugar. Saliva is Kapha. The five kinds of Kapha are: (1) Avalambaka Kapha found in the chest, which controls the deficiencies relating to the Kapha in general in the body (2) Kledaka Kapha is found in the stomach, which emulsifies the food; (3) Tarpaka Kapha which invigorates the heart (Location-Head, sinuses, spine and cerebrospinal fluid); (4) Sleshaka Kapha ( responsible for cushioning the joints) which keeps intact the joints and other similar structures; and (5) Bodhaka Kapha which renders the tongue to perceive taste.. Kapha-type joint ailments are initiated by excess kapha in the body. Kapha is also aggravated by inactivity, dullness, boredom, lethargy, and inadequate exercise. The Kapha represents the body-water and watery materials of the body. The stamina of .the body depends upon the Kapha.
For creation healthy joins Ayurveda has long recommended a variety of herbal pastes applied topically to promote healing. These particular pastes are especially supportive when there is excess kapha in the joints......Call 9773170560/9825463394 (Women Only).
When Vatha is predominant, body is light; there are pain in the joints, flatulence, constipation, weakness, emaciation, tremor, giddiness, exhaustion, darkness of complexion, sleeplessness.
When there is a burning sensation in the body and the eyes, the stool, urine and skin become yellowish, when there are intense hunger, thirst and sleeplessness, Pitta predominates.
When one feels heaviness of body or head, when there are excretion of mucus, loss of appetite, pallor of body, cough, excess of sleep, heaviness in breathing, lack of memory, low temperature, weakness of joints, Kapha predominates.
Vata, Pitta and Kapha form the Tridoshas. The theory of Tridoshas forms the pivot on which the whole system of Ayurveda revolves. It is the fundamental basis of all Ayurvedic physiology, pathology and methods of treatment.
Therefore to know your Dosha is important, vital and interesting...Call 9773170560/9825463394
Tridoshas are made up of the five ingredients, the five Mahabhutas. They have different colours. They are secretions of the body. They occur in gross forms in the abdomen and in the subtle form throughout the body. They circulate throughout the body after absorption, and nourish the seven tissues. They act on food. During digestion the three Doshas are poured into the intestines as secretions.
Proper Diet, Exercise, Asanas, Pranayama, bodily activities keep the Doshas healthy and in proper proportion.
When the Tridoshas are in a state of equilibrium, harmony or equipoise, you enjoy health. When the equilibrium is disturbed, you get diseases. Diseases are generated through the disturbance of one Dosha or two or three. Unhealthy food produces disharmony or loss of equilibrium in the Doshas. Regulated, balanced and wholesome food, exercise and physical activities bring back the Doshas into a state of equilibrium or harmony.
The three humors, through their triple fold dimension (psychic, energetic and physical) develop the body, and govern the body/mind and its functions. They rule physiology, anatomy and morphology, regulate the functioning of the body, its organs, the brain, nerves, bones, blood circulation, lymphatic systems, digestion etc. Balanced humors give positive health and harmony to the body/mind, and provide a good base for the development of the body/mind, the immune system and protection. On the contrary, the loss of balance among the humors causes energy disharmony and physical and mental disequilibrium which may appear at any time and become the cause of diseases.
In short, the humors inter-reactions and collaboration regulate the physical development, transformation, metabolism, temperature, respiration, blood circulation and lymph systems, as well as the aging and dying processes. The mind and the emotions are also regulated by the three humors. Generally, the humors are also like a body; when the body is young and healthy, the humors are strong and balanced according to the person’s constitution, and when the body gets older the humors’ strength and qualities also degenerate and become the cause of sickness.

PANCHAKARMA

Feeling sluggish, depressed, anxiety, unmotivated? Having difficulty with emotional issues, digestion or concentration? You may benefit dramatically from Panchakarma Therapy

It is the only system of medicine in the world which proposes the need of under-taking the purification of biological system from gross channels up to the molecular levels aiming to clean the entire organism to render it suitable for self recovery and therapeutic responsiveness, which deals with purification of the provocated Doshas-before they are aggrevated enough to produce disorders (physiological or pathological) from the body. Toxins and waste materials should be purified from nutural as well as from the nearest root of the body. The aim of Panchkarma treatment is to settle the per- turbation of doshas and restore their equilibrium. Vitiated Dosha is the basic factor in the manifestation and progress of any disease. Panchakarma therapy, specifically the Samshodhana like Vamana and Virechana, is one of its kinds which aims at the elimination of vitiated Doshas from the body so that the disease could be prevented.

When the energetic forces - vata, pitta, and kapha get out of balance, it lowers our digestive fire (agni), and toxins (ama) are created. The ama enters into the blood stream, clogging the channels, and lodges into joints, muscles, organs, and reproductive tissue. This is detrimental to our prana (life-force ), tejas (metabolic energy), and ojas (immunity).

Panchakarma Therapy purify or cleanse all the body tissues and to bring about the harmony of neurohumours (tridoshas) (i.e., vata, pitta, kapha, and manasa doshas (satva, raja, and tama) and to obtain long-lasting beneficial effects. It removes the toxic materials from the body and provides purification of the body at two levels: the gross level, where various organs and systems of the body are thoroughly cleansed (e.g., cardiovascular system, gastrointestinal tract, chest, etc.); and the cellular level, where purification and cleansing of the body is produced at the level of cells, cell membranes, and molecules. It helps bring the whole body to normalcy, starts rejuvenation and revitalization of all body tissues, removes waste products, unwanted materials, various toxins, and stagnant doshas. Panchakarma Treatment is believed to affect the cleansing of microcirculatory channels by eliminating the toxic metabolites from the body. This helps in the process of curing a disease.

Panchakarma has to be applied to remove the waste materials accumulated in the body in different seasons for prevention diseases caused by seasonal changes.

It is the comprehensive method of internal purification of the body through emesis (vaman karma), purgation (virechana karma), enema (vasti karma), errhines (nasya karma), and bloodletting (raktamokshana).

Vast : Medicated enema is highly effective vata type of disorders. It is also applied in other dosha disorders as well. Vasti is considered as half of the treatment in Ayurveda.

Nasya is applied in kapha disorders. This is very effective in disorders above shoulders. It is applied in unconsciousness, hemiplegia, headache, heaviness of head, eye disease, disease of throat, oedema, tumours of the neck, worm infestation, tumours in the body, leprosy, epilepsy, rhinitis, migraine, loss of voice, dryness of mouth and nose, speech problems and other neurological disorders etc.

Panchakarma Therapy have excellent result in arthritis, paralysis, neuromuscular diseases and in respiratory, gas- trointestinal, ENT, and several blood-related disorders with great benefits. Panchakarma procedures can play a key role in the management of conditions like Cerebrovascular Accident (CVA).

Panchakarma Treatment is widely used in treating broad categories of conditions - arthritic, rheumatic, neurological, neuromuscular, musculo- skeletal disorders, other degenerative conditions, mental disorders, insomnia, depression, menstrual irregularities, infertility, obesity, asthma and other respiratory conditions, irritable bowel syndrome, gastro-intestinal conditions, other chronic conditions, etc. Thus panchakarma has preventive, curative and promotive functions.

According to Ayurveda, our physical body is made-up of 7 different types of tissues called dhatu. These body tissues are nourished through food materials that get digested by action of digestive fire (agni). The digested materials are carried to different tissues through srotas (body channels). At each tissue level, there is a digestive fire that works on the food material to activate absorption of nutrients into the corresponding tissue. As a by-product of this process, mala (waste materials) are formed which are eventually eliminated. Nourishment of body tissues does not happen when there is any block in body channels or impaired function of any of the digestive fires, this results in the indigestion of food in the body. This undigested material or waste material (ama) clog the body channels and manifests in different disease conditions. Management of these conditions has to be done by removing of these clogs or blocks and improving metabolic processes. When oleation and sudation are done, waste materials, clogged in the body channels become pakva (digested and disintegrated), and they move into the kostha (main channel). During panchakarma, these are expelled through natural orifices. As it is a mechanism to eliminate the waste materials from the body, panchakarma is not only used as curative treatment but also as preventive and promotive.

Either one or all five procedures are advised as per the need and condition of the person undergoing Panchakarma Treatment. Based on the health of the individual and stage and type of the disease, only one of the five procedures may be done without following a sequence.

A regulated life style also plays an important role in getting the maximum benefits of Panchakarma. It has to be followed for equal number of days for which Panchakarma was done.

Panchakarma has a full therapeutic role in promoting preventive, curative, and rehabilitative procedures.
